Thread ready for results day tomorrow!

OP posts:

Still waiting here. School were supposed to email grades. I phoned but got an answerphone.Brilliant. How do we find out what grades he got?

My daughter got her firm but below predicted grades a few years ago, very similar reaction (despite it being a brilliant uni and great grades!) We went for a remark on a couple particularly low papers, but nothing shifted. She was terrified it would affect job applications.

She's just finished with a great degree, moving to London and starting a job she's really excited about next week.

Her sister got her results today and she's made a couple comments - but it's been a non-issue for three years. They're just a stepping stone! Once she has her degree, no one will think twice about her A levels.

I think we let her wallow for a second (while being very excited ourselves), but things move so quickly from here. Get her to Dunelm looking at kitchenware and bedding!

So glad it worked out ok for her! It’s hard for them to have perspective when everyone’s been banging on about the importance of them for two years but once they start at Uni or work and living their lives independently they gain much more perspective.
Definitely going to go hog wild in Dunelm 😄

He's been talking to teachers at school and they're saying his personal statement was really good, he applied early with Sussex as first choice and went to two open days, all of which might have counted in his favour but I am surprised that he dropped by so much and still got in. There's no way they can remove the offer now, right? He's had the email from Sussex as well as the UCAS confirmation

Lecturer here. Sometimes if we really want a student and like what they'll bring to the course we make an offer. The comments you made about his statement and enthusiasm might have decided it for him.

@GiveOverWillYou Please reassure DD that nobody will give a rat's arse what her A Level grades were once she graduates with her degree from her FIRST CHOICE Uni - they really won't. Also, point out to her that the fact she made her first choice means that the Uni possibly saw something in her personal statement that swung it - far more kudos IMO.

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn Both mine ended up at their Insurance Universities. And in both instances, they were fantastic outcomes in the end. DD has just graduated from Manchester with a 2:1 (less than half a mark off a First but we don't talk about that) and DS is going into his second year at Notts.

It will be fine.

Very true! The tears are drying and there is talk of the pub. . 🤪

DoggerelBank · 13/08/2026 13:54

Bristol (or UCAS?) seems to have messed up. Offered ABB with A in an essay subject. Firmed as first choice. But now, despite getting AAB with A in history, UCAS has it as a rejection from Bristol and accepted by second choice.
We phoned Bristol first thing and they said they'd look into it, but still no news.
It's all going to be OK, right? She can't lose her place (or be forced to defer) if she exceeded the offer and they made an admin error? It's for Politics, not a subject like medicine with a very finite number of places.

Anyone else in a similar position, or have experience from previous years?

Priorities2026 · 13/08/2026 13:55

Fabfabfab · 13/08/2026 10:35

It's for History. Had heard from previous years that they sometimes accepts a grade lower but this year their applications have doubled apparently so no flexibility despite getting a higher grade in another subject. Hope it goes well for your niece and let us know when you have some news :)

Still no news! I messaged her last night wishing my DN good luck today and saying please let me know the outcome so I don't think I can ask again. Don't think it is looking good, I think whatever the actual grades she would just message saying "DN into Durham, will tell you more later" or "didn't make Durham but off to UCL" so the silence doesn't feel good to me. DN's insurance was either Warwick or UCL (can't remember) but I think that had similar grade requirements for history so worried about that too. Appreciate this really isn't about me and sure DN will do well wherever she goes...

@Fgfgfg This is encouraging. DD will be applying with known grades as she's doing an art foundation year locally next. She'll have a strong personal statement as she's done lots extra that relates to the subject and is quite passionate about it. She got A * BB. today and the course she really wants to do wants AAB. I've looked and it's in clearing today so I think I'm right to be hopeful for her application this coming year. What do you reckon?

She may be deciding between Clearing offers.

It feels more positive to give the news "DN didn't make first choice but has a great offer from X" rather than "DN didn't make offer and is wondering what to do".

Dd got into Bath - her first choice. Lots of tears all round. So proud! Feels like yesterday I was on mumsnet getting advice on breastfeeding so this all feels very surreal and emotional!

My DSS got into Bath too, to do pharmacy, such great news, I was so nervous for him!

Finallythesunisshining · 13/08/2026 14:21

DS got into Bath Spa University but will defer for a year as he had heart surgery 2 weeks ago. He hasn't got his actual results yet as he's currently in A&E. Not quite the results day we'd anticipated. 🙈

Strongopiniononaboutprettymucheverything · 13/08/2026 14:22

Mcdhotchoc · 13/08/2026 12:54

Ah feck it. Dd didn't get what she wanted. Was offered a different course at her insurance but it's not what she wanted to do. Gap year planned anyway so not throwing her through clearing

It might actually be the best thing to ever happen to her. A gap year will open her to so many new people, places and perspectives she may well decide to do another course / different uni/ different path altogether with a bit more maturity and experience. Whatever happens, I'm sure she'll have a happy life with such a supportive family x

OMG Congratulations to your DS but more importantly I hope he recovers soon.

Can he go into school asap? Staff will be there.
Is there some type of portal thing and he’s missed the info. I’d want him to check with friends exactly how results have come.

Thanks, I agree with what you say. I am going to keep busy now and know my sister will update me when she wants to. My DD went through this last year but we were lucky and she got her firm so it was a very uneventful day in the end. Am sure it will work out fine for my DN who is a lovely girl.

I’d leave them be. I’d assume they are calling clearing or possibly even enroute to have a look at a uni. Hopefully good news soon.

They literally have no Chemistry based subjects in clearing and that’s what he really wants to do.

Liverpool has chemistry in clearing! Three years, or Four years including a year abroad, or Four years with a year in Industry or a 4 year MChem (leading to masters) or a 5 year MChem with ayear abroad, or a 4 year Chemistry with Research in Industry. It's Russell Group too.

Coming back on to confirm that DS has got onto his degree apprenticeship, and so I think has declined his offer at Bath (engineering) - not certain as I’ve not spoken to him for 5 hours now and I think he’s making his way round restaurants taking advantage of their results day offers!

Congratulations and commiserations to everyone, especially those from the longstanding y13 threads. Won’t name check all but those I’ve spotted - @bluefineliner so happy your DD got her medicine place! @AuntyBulgaria tough about Warwick, the FM grade boundaries look brutal this year (DS likewise got his A star in Maths but A in FM). Hope he enjoys Loughborough. @JustHereWithMyPopcorn really sad to hear he’s missed Bath atm, I hope the remark makes all the difference. And well done to @SilverBlue4’s DS! Hope he enjoys aerospace! Hope we can keep chatting, I’ll be keen to compare and constrast with the DA experience! And ❤️ to @Ventress if you are reading.

My DD is saying that a few similar stories appeared on the new Undergrads WhatsApp group for Durham this morning. They tried to phone but no-one could get through.

I’ve also heard that some students can’t get their UCAS hub to update at all - still just saying that the uni is considering their offer or something like that. I know there are issues at University of Ulster where they have a new system and it’s got some glitches, but don’t know if it’s just UU students who are waiting for UCAS to update

Rumplestiltz · 13/08/2026 14:37

AAB here and into first choice. He was a kid who was on a low flight path at school because of getting below expected levels in English/reading Sats in year 6 - predicted a 3 at gcse for geography now has an A at A level in that subject and off to a great uni to study it! Well done everyone.

That's interesting that there seem to be admin error rejections at Durham too. We've now heard from Bristol. Admin error acknowledged and confirmation of acceptance. Phew!

Thank goodness! It’s the sort of issue where you think ‘well it must be fine, surely!’ but can’t help panic a little. You can now celebrate wholeheartedly!

Maverick197 · 13/08/2026 15:08

My dd decided to go through clearing as she didn't get her 1st choice (Nottingham) and no longer wanted to go to her insurance uni (Royal Holloway). She got an offer from Uni of Liverpool via clearing and is super chuffed!

BurnoutGP · 13/08/2026 15:13

Just found thir thread and its so lovely. Much relief here as DD got what she needed for Kings London. After the disappointment of a post interview cambridge rejection she has fully embraced the thought of a London uni and very relieved to be going. She has done really well but may have missed a cambridge offer with her results so all worked out well in the end. Would hate to be sorting London accomodation as an insurance and the disappointment missing a cambridge offer so much relief from me. And DD is ecstatic.

Highlights the absolute nonsense of the flight paths schools insist on based on bloody Y6 SATs...
