2025/26 SAD thread

It’s 1st September tomorrow so we’re back for another year’s SAD thread.

Welcome all old and new who struggles in the cold and dark months for advice and general moaning!

The only rule is no talk of snuggling under blankets, crunching in leaves (which will realistically be a soggy wet mulch, or pumpkin spiced anything!

Advice from previous years’ threads:

A SAD lamp can help as can a daylight alarm clock.
Try to get outdoors when the weather/ light allows it.
Try to keep up with your exercise routine or start a new one!
Remember to take your vitamin D and multi vitamins.
Try to have something to look forward to.

The heatwave is returning here and looks likely to last all week 😄😎

lyingonthebeach · Yesterday 18:37

Oh no @Idstillratherbepaddleboarding . It's still lovely here and the forecast forvthe next week us good. I'm making the most of every minute but I still have a slight sense of dread of what's to come.
I hope you get some sun vvvv soon.
I don't want to need it but I know I will need the new SAD thread.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · Yesterday 07:54

Urgh not loving the turn in the weather! Hope everyone else is still having lovely sunshine.

It won’t be long til the start of this year’s SAD thread 😵😵.

Well obviously not, given my post before yours

this has been the longest most horrendous summer ever, and it's not even slightly over.

I'm looking forward to winter! That's never happened in my whole life, but I'm worried now that we'll get massive dumps of snow

There's been no normal civilised weather in my part of the world at all

EmeraldRoulette · 11/07/2026 18:48

I'd happily switch the sun off, this is horrendous

If you see me on here in the winter, remind me what June and July have been like. Although I don't think I'm likely to forget.

edit - maybe we need a thread for people who need the temperature between 10 and 25 and can't manage outside of those numbers... this will strongly relate to your living and working environment I expect.

wrt hypomania I would be very happy if sun was down by eight. Actually winter in LA it's down by about 630 and that is exactly right.

lyingonthebeach · 11/07/2026 17:52

@Idontknowhatnametochoose I so agree! 😀

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 11/07/2026 17:40

I'm still loving it 😎

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 06/07/2026 13:31

I’m loving it too but am definitely well on my way to hypomania 🙈🙈.

lyingonthebeach · 26/06/2026 16:16

How are you all?

I love this weather. Absolutely love it.

The blue, bright sky, the heat, knowing that I can wear my lovely summer clothes.....and I finished work early so I'm in a shady bit of the garden with a Pimms. Bliss!😊

Bonden · 14/06/2026 22:55

We had sun too. The bliss. The energy. The … joy

lyingonthebeach · 13/06/2026 16:20

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 10/06/2026 17:36

😡😩 the weather is absolutely hideous! It's dark, cold and rainy😰 aaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! It's completely sapping my soul.

Yup it’s fricking June. I thought to myself today that I shouldn’t have to wear a coat in May and then I realised it’s June ffs😡.

Arrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhh this fucking weather sob sob sob

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 03/06/2026 12:16

This weather is seriously depressing.

Please bring back summer. I love the heat.

EmeraldRoulette · 03/06/2026 11:51

@lyingonthebeach I see
I can't manage 35° any better than I can manage 5°

In fact, I think possibly 5° is better

Not helped by the fact that my flat is ridiculously boiling hot so you can't get a break from it unless you make a point of finding somewhere with air-conditioning. This is not a realistic way to spend your whole day. Well, not in my case.

It's still so hot and humid in my flat - I don't know how to get it to recover from an early heat wave. Obviously we had lots of hot weather last summer and I coped much better but there was air coming in in the evenings. We are on our umpteenth day of no air coming in.

Again, I wish I could be more weather resistant! I have to try and focus on being resilient, basically but I often feel very trapped in the flat and coupled with feeling unmotivated to do anything else, it's not helping.

It's on my list of things to do next week to see if I can find an external workspace. I'm not thrilled about it, but I think it's time to look at that.

it's raining now, but that's just bringing in humidity rather than freshness.

I hope everyone feels better soon.

lyingonthebeach · 03/06/2026 11:39

@EmeraldRoulette yes, i was out as much as possible in the heat. If it was very hot, I kept in the shade but could still enjoy the blue sky and warmth.
This weather today is just crushing me!
I hope you feel less 'flat' soon

EmeraldRoulette · 03/06/2026 11:11

Just to add, it's basically gone down to about 20° and raining.

So my flat is still boiling. But it's not cold outside either. @lyingonthebeach I noticed you said it feels like November so I'm guessing you're in a totally different part of the country.

EmeraldRoulette · 03/06/2026 11:10

I don't know what to make of it but I just feel flat as a pancake

I suspect it's not seasonal - unusually I found that May went very slowly this year. Possibly connected to the incredibly extensive dental work I'm having to have done.

It's quite scary to think that I might feel flat all of summer. I don't know. Having 35° was just far too much for me so that didn't help. I would like my gentle English spring and summer back. Someone on another thread said that with 35° you're effectively trapped in doors as if you were in winter.

or maybe it's totally unrelated.

Did you guys all head out in the Sun at that temperature?
