Does anybody find leg day so hard and mentally taxing?

Like quads glutes and calves in agony at the end. Does anyone struggle to push for the last few reps as well?

it's leg day today. Sigh. Yesterday's pull day was more fun.
Saw a woman I vaguely know at gym, she was going to a yoga class. She commented on me being in good shape, that she would like to look like that too, what do I do for that?
Me: lift weights, why don't you join me over there?
She: oh no no, I don't want to have muscles, I want to be toned, like you!
Me: well, then that's...weights.

(also i hate the word 'toned'. And I'm not toned, I'm jacked, thanks very much)

Waitingfordoggo · 14/08/2026 13:28

Exactly @HeidiLite. I’m wearing nothing but sleeveless tops at the moment and every so often someone comments on my arms or shoulders which is very nice to hear!

HeidiLite · 14/08/2026 13:05

and, and you get more opportunities to show off toned arms as opposed to legs - I can wear short sleeves also in places where miniskirts are not appropriate.

Waitingfordoggo · 14/08/2026 12:30

I could have written that @HeidiLite! I don’t get DOMs either as I’m doing weights so frequently and I miss the DOMs. But it’s great when you get them after a break because it proves how strong/fit you are!

I also love upper body- chest, biceps and shoulders. Would happily just do those all the time; I just find lower body boring and like you say, results from upper body work are visible so much quicker.

HeidiLite · 14/08/2026 10:28

I also don't get DOMS unless I've taken a long break, which I haven't done for a while. And I work hard, no question about that. In a weird way I miss the pain, so you really feel you have done something 😀
But I actually also much prefer upper body days, as muscle growth is much more visible, while it takes a lot longer to visibly grow bigger muscles.

It's my fav day. I have shadow abs so hate core days, and I dont massively enjoy upper body. Legs and moderate cardio is where I thrive, love squats, deadlifts, launges, but I also found programme/website that does the most amazing fitness content, and while Im not saying I am super strong/good at lifting, I have genuinely enjoyed the lower body workouts the most.

username2185 · 13/08/2026 19:45

Yes especially if I’ve taken time out! It also leaves me exhausted the next day, on top of doms but I do have low iron too. I keep thinking about starting creatine to help, do you take it?

TheCountessofLocksley · 13/08/2026 19:34

@lombardh - 6 years.

BiscuitsCheeseBiscuits · 13/08/2026 18:13

Leg day is my favourite. I love leg day. Weirdly I like DOMs too. I feel like I must be doing something right if I have DOMs

I'm just getting back into the gym after some time away, might have to pop in for a leg only session over the weekend now

Yep.

Upper body is easy peasy for me.

Leg day has so many moving parts to think about. My knees aren’t great and I have a bit of hyper mobility so making sure me knees and back are doing the right thing takes a lot of effort.

The quad pain is just unbearable for me

Re: clothing

I buy Sweaty Betty compression leggings and shorts. (Mind you, I'm older and not using as heavy weights as most of you.)

lombardh · 13/08/2026 16:21

Thats incredible I can only do 80kg

Ah but it depends how you are doing it and your range of motion. I could 140kg but once I started to increase the range and narrow the stance I had to reduce the weights.
I love leg day apart from hack squat and split Bulgarians which are the devil's work!!

Nice stretchy leggings. Always need a bit of adjustment though.

Are the shorts good as well

I love leg day but I do have a tendency to not realise how far I’ve pushed and then spend three days having to lower myself down onto the toilet with my arms… so I have learned that just because I can doesn’t always mean I should! Almost had a race scuppered because I got carried away and could barely walk for a few days.

@lombardh I'm really quite heavy though, so you may well press more in percentage terms of your body weight.

Also, my squat is abysmal and my deadlift is nothing to write home about.

I'm best lying down - so leg press and chest press are good for me.

I blame a dodgy back that I'm trying to rehab.

Do you wear any clothes in particular that helps with this

Some serious numbers coming out here - impressive @TheCountessofLocksley

I have recently been trying single leg. It's a very different beast and I'm starting lowish until I feel more stable.

lombardh · 13/08/2026 16:31

TheCountessofLocksley · 13/08/2026 16:28

235kg and 110kg if doing single leg (3 sets of 6-8 reps)

legs is easy…..now shoulders…..meh. Hate shoulders!!

How old are you btw? Thats insane
