Conflict in the Middle East

To feel sorry for Ed Sheeran.....

So Ed Sheeran's tour is in tatters simply because he believes music for entertainment and personally he likes to keep politics out of it (as many many stars do).

Simply because his support wanted to highlight the oppressed people of Iran and the use of capital punishment to stifle dissent support wanted to bring up Gaza without any reference to the start of the war due to a massacre on October 7th and Ed didn't want that he is suddenly the bad guy? Perhaps Ed succumbed to sing of thinking of Jews in the audience and the connotations of 'Free Paelstine' he is now on the naughty step of virtue signallers.

So all those Sheeran fans could lose out seeing someone they have waited months to see because some humpty has to jump on the Gaza bandwagon with a few trite soundbites as part of his act (because hey the ME isn't complicated) to look a bit radical or whatever. Bloody disgrace.

Of course I have empathy for what happened in the holocaust but

Cherry picking my words to try to twist the meaning of what I'm saying is not going to work for anyone who has half a brain. Perhaps if you disagree with what I'm saying, try to actually argue the point instead.

Of course I have empathy for what happened in the holocaust but I also have empathy for the indigenous population who have had to pay the price for something they had nothing to do with. This also does not detract from the fact that Israel is officially an ethnosupremacist state.

You could do with a bit more of the balance shown by Pink and Sheeran.

DeterminedRat · 20/09/2026 09:55

Twiglets1 · 20/09/2026 09:39

Not that simple. What about all the people who had paid money and gone to effort to attend his concerts? Doesn't he owe them anything?

What about them though? They got what they paid for. Ed Sheeran and his support acts in concert. Or are you talking about the people last night who only got half of what they paid for?

There is no point because you deflect with misinformation and insinuation at every turn such as with references to Palestinians as indigenous when you know full well Jews are too.

It's not for you to decide what is going to work for whom. You don't own the thread or get to decide what works and what doesn't when it comes to posts.

I was responding to the poster who said "he chose money over friendship, very simple" - presumably for going ahead with the gig after Kraft said Macklemore would no longer be allowed to perform in his stadium.

It wasn't Ed's choice it was Robert Kraft's choice. Ed could have withdrawn from the tour himself but that would have had a big impact on the fans who had paid for tickets and made arrangements to be there.

I don't believe one group of indigenous people have a right to dispossess another indigenous group especially when the vast majority of them had lived as a diaspora for centuries.

I just repeated your words, Of course I have empathy for what happened in the holocaust but

Like when people say I'm not racist but

I was calling out how the word "but" shouldn't be used after those words.

I think most people who are following this thread can see exactly what the intention was regardless of what side of the fence they are on. As I said, very disingenuous.

Nobody said they did.

But that is literally, historically and still ongoing, what has happened.

No it is not. That is an ideological driven vast over simplification and I am not rehearsing it over and over again. You reveal your position by referring only to one indigenous group and by repeatedly minimising the issues affecting Jews in the region historically. Its also not a question of being on one side of the fence. Try taking a leaf out of Pink's book and putting the binary aside. I'm done with this discussion.

The trouble with your version of events is that it is incomplete and therefore distorted and misleading. Partial truth is not “truth” . It can be deceptive. Only the whole truth is the “truth”

Macklemore ?

He did look like a horrible goblin when he performed as a caricature of a Jew.

Sheeran. I don’t know who Macklemore is.

Okay, let's put Deir Yassin, Tantura, the Nakba and Plan Dalet on one side. What should we put on the other side to balance it out.

You’re probably on the wrong thread then

Martymcfly24 · 20/09/2026 10:43

Emilesgran · 20/09/2026 09:25

No it doesn’t. And I don’t believe you’re arguing in good faith because this doesn’t even make sense, and I think you know that.

Could you explain how I'm not arguing in good faith?

You stated that "Since all that Palestinians need to do to stop Israel attacking them is to stop killing Israelis, it doesn’t fit any serious definition of genocide"

So for nearly 11 months Palestinians have not killed or attacked Israel yet in that time Israel managed to murder nearly 900 people including 300 children and has no plans to stop at all. Perhaps now it fits a "serious definition of genocide"

Does it still not make sense to you or do you just not want to hear it .

Twiglets1 · 20/09/2026 09:38

Yes I suppose he is some people's idea of a musician seeing as he has made approx £410 million from it.

What has Sheeran's bank balance got to do with his musical talent? Do you think there is some kind of link between musical talent and income?!
Putting it as generously as possible, Sheeran is extremely mediocre.

ohdelay · 20/09/2026 11:37

I feel a teeny bit sorry for Ed, but he's a billionaire and he brought in Macklemore in the first place, so his fault. I feel very sorry for the backing dancers, sound engineers, lighting people, venues etc who are having their livelihood disrupted because activism. This is why people can't have nice things.

@Squeezingwildoranges has been very patient and balanced.
European Jews who returned to the area hundreds of years, perhaps thousands of years after leaving cannot be called indigenous in any real sense of the word, particularly not if they think it justifies stealing the land of those who were already living in the area. Is this 'logic' applied anywhere else to any other group, I wonder?

Radyward · 20/09/2026 11:43

He has made himself look like a complete muppet by referencing the controversy at his show thus prolonging the blow over . As if anyone at his show needed the controversy reignited / even alluded to. He didnt read the room. The silly boy.
Just shut up and sing. I'd be rightly annoyed after paying for an ensemble band and end up with basically a busker. #didn't get what was paid for.
He has made it ten times worse the fall out after crying on stage. He looks totally pathetic. He should have cancelled the tour and went on the road again next yr.

I am sure you know that Ashkenazi Jews are in fact a minority in Israel and the reasons why so many Jews in Israel have at some time been diasporic is rather the point, though the majority are not from the European diaspora, they are Mizrahi. This over simplification and distortion of history is just part of an attempt to underminine the legitimacy of the Jewish people's right to self determination.

This has never been about Jewish right to self determination. It is about Palestinian right to self determination, something the 2018 Nation-State Bill has effectively outlawed.
