Conflict in the Middle East

To feel sorry for Ed Sheeran.....

1000 replies

mids2019 · 16/09/2026 16:19

So Ed Sheeran's tour is in tatters simply because he believes music for entertainment and personally he likes to keep politics out of it (as many many stars do).

Simply because his support wanted to highlight the oppressed people of Iran and the use of capital punishment to stifle dissent support wanted to bring up Gaza without any reference to the start of the war due to a massacre on October 7th and Ed didn't want that he is suddenly the bad guy? Perhaps Ed succumbed to sing of thinking of Jews in the audience and the connotations of 'Free Paelstine' he is now on the naughty step of virtue signallers.

So all those Sheeran fans could lose out seeing someone they have waited months to see because some humpty has to jump on the Gaza bandwagon with a few trite soundbites as part of his act (because hey the ME isn't complicated) to look a bit radical or whatever. Bloody disgrace.

Arafat and his chums were expelled from Jordan for attempting a coup against the King. They then went to Lebanon and started a civil war with the Christian majority. Egypt has a big wall to keep them out. They were expelled from Kuwait in the nineties for supporting Saddam Hussein. That's the history of the Palestinians in a nutshell.

Not quite sure where you are going here. Could you clarify? You have left out all the historical and political context of those events, so can I ask politely, are you trying to say that the Palestinians deserve what is happening to them today?

You haven't answered either of my questions mids.
No one was talking about whether stars may or may not be forthcoming in their political views. That's not what you said before. Please look at your post and my response again.
You have also been asked twice to qualify what you mean by Macklemore's antisemitic rants. Again, no response.

She won’t have a response. She’s a very prominent poster on the topic and is very much of the viewpoint that supporting the Palestinians means you’re a terrorist lover, anti semitic and determined to see the end of Israel. Never really been able to explain the atrocities carried out by Israel and very rarely posts about it.

rainingsnoring · 19/09/2026 10:58

Surely you can't be serious, both about calling the other poster thick and then also saying that you haven't heard anybody calling to free the Iranian people from the IRGC. This was said all over the place, including on here. There were lots of daft comments on here about freeing Iranian women when the US and Israel first started the war on Iran. Although, the two situations are, of course, completely different.

Palestine protests have been going on weekly since October 7th. There’s been one or two places where there’s been demonstrations about Iran and some of the other conflicts - absolutely NOTHING on the scale of the Palestine protests, as you well know.

At Glastonbury they were all chanting Free Free Palestine and there was that rapper chanting about Palestine and the IDF. Nothing about Iran or Sudan etc.

I dont actually believe a lot of the people protesting about Gaza, really care, they’re just acting like sheep and following the latest bandwagon.

And you say that Israel and the US started the war in Iran. Iran is a repressed nation. The people have been out on the streets demonstrating and getting shot by IRGC. What level of desperation drives a person to do that, knowing full well they could end up being killed? 3 young men were executed recently for taking part in the protests, one of whom reportedly died from a heart attack just before his execution. I can’t fathom why people are so silent about this. The disparity is astonishing.

You keep saying children were not the target but you don't know that. IDF soldiers have given testimonies that at times there were invisible lines, and anyone who crossed that line could be shot and killed. That includes children.

You hide your tunnels and other terrorist shit in hospitals and schools, what do you think is going to happen.

There have been videos showing how the kids are so indoctrinated, they pick up arms for Hamas.

I thought it was a well known fact that Hamas don't give a shit about Palestinians and use them as human shields, whilst the leaders hideaway in their marble and gold mansions far far away.

No sympathy for Ed. He is a disgrace siding with wealthy promotors over his own friend to start off with, they have been friends for 13 years at least. Ed is a coward! The UN has stated it is a genocide so Macklemore was just declaring facts. Also when we look back in history we are always asking why didn’t people stand up and say something? Well now they are. Let’s get Macklemores single to number 1 on the iTunes chart! Adding onto this to those people that say music shouldn’t be political it always has been about messages for the people. Also actually go and listen to the speech because he said NOTHING against Jewish people he was standing up for all of humanity that is being oppressed at the moment. Ed can crawl away he is spineless.

No the UN as an organisation has not stated it is a genocide, they know that only an international court case can determine that. What you are referring to are the conclusions of one UN commission of enquiry, not the UN as a whole.

BBC article dated September 2025

The UN says it cannot make a legal determination as to whether a situation constitutes genocide under international law. It says a situation is referred to as genocide only after a competent national or international court has declared it as such.

When asked by journalists on Tuesday if he would consider using the word genocide to describe Israel's actions in Gaza, UN human rights chief Volker Türk said: "It's for the court to decide whether it's genocide or not, and we see the evidence mounting."

Macklemore was stating his opinion, not fact.

As @mids2019 said. It does remind me of the trans cancelling/abuse thing. It is not trendy at all to be a zionist.

Unfortunately some groups who proclaim they are tolerant and liberal only seem to be so if you agree with what they say. Otherwise they are vitriolic and violent and downright scare people into silence.

Politics should be left out of entertainment. Let people just enjoy themselves for a bit. Lawd knows we need it.

I'm not sure that it's as simple as they aren't targeting children when they are waiting until low level Hamas operatives go home and night and then making a crater out of an apartment full of sleeping children all to kill one low level operative.

We've all seen the double tapping killing of the boy by a drone as he rushed to help an injured paramedic from a few days ago. That shows how accurate Israel can be when they want to be. So why did they need to blow up 1000s of sleeping children? 1000s of completely uninvolved families whose only crime was going to bed?

You've already been told why people don't want to engage with you, that doesn't change just because you keep going on about it.

Responding to this, but somehow you conveniently can't answer the question ....because there isn't another term. This leaves the door open for people to choose to be offended by the term, only when it suits them.

It's the same with any criticism of Israel that is used as antisemitism, when the intent is to criticise the policies of a government that is carrying out a genocide.

As I said, if anyone wants to offer up an alternative term to encapsulate what is happening, i will use that. I suspect though, that the ongoing excuses will be used.

Exactly @Twiglets1

Even trying to move the goalposts about the definition of genocide, the UN is, still unable to say it is a genocide.

I do wonder if people actually know what one is. Or if they have just heard it bandied about so much, they think it is true and repeat it.
See also open air prison, apartheid, starvation, 1967 borders, state of Palestine etc.

If you read up about Hamas' media narrative, they are very clever with their propaganda and phrases they use. Very clever indeed and a spectacularly success use of some of their billions.

A UN commission of inquiry says Israel has deliberately targeted Palestinian children, resulting in genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Gaza Strip, as well as war crimes in the occupied West Bank.
A new report alleges that Israeli authorities and security forces have "deliberately carried out acts inflicting death and severe bodily and mental harm on hundreds of thousands of Palestinian children", and that the killings continued even after last October's ceasefire in Gaza.
The commission says it has reasonable grounds to conclude that those acts "form part of a deliberate strategy to destroy the future of the Palestinians in Gaza by targeting their children".

Doesn’t change anything because Ed Sheeran is still a coward and I understand why people may be scared to speak out but he has money and power. The abuse of power and wealth is literally on TV. At the end of the day I can’t go to my grave knowing that I didn’t speak out while millions of children are being killed while they are picking up food and water that has been sent in to help them. Just read some of the doctors accounts that have been there, they are the true heroes.

Why is he a coward?

Do you think its somehow uniquely brave to shout Free Palestine? Everyone is doing it these days haven't you noticed? It's an ingroup signal. If you don't signal your part in the group, you are morally disgusting.

I think its more brave to hold one's own council in order to not offend either side? Perhaps he's neutral? Perhaps he supports Israel?

He's famous, and thus made a pact with the devil, everyone thinks they own him, everyone thinks they have a right to know his opinions.

I do wonder what he thinks he isn't complicit in though. That means that he knows something wrong or harmful has happened and he feels that he isn't responsible for it. Was it the firing of Macklemore that he thinks is wrong or the mass slaughter and starvation of Palestinians?

A UN commission of inquiry is not the same as "the UN" so I'm glad you acknowledge that fact.

Laughable to suggest that people may be scared to speak out because Ed Sheeran has "money and power" though, when you look at the very public backlash he has suffered for trying to stay neutral.

It's a highly emotive subject for people on both sides so hence it's obvious he will upset fans if he does take a position. So he chooses not - free speech includes the right not to speak about things we don't want to.

In my left leaning town, there is an organised demonstration in support of ‘Palestine’ once a week. Every Friday at 6pm they would bring their kids and stand in the designated area, banging their pots and pans. There are occasional reminders on the local Facebook page, a town group in support of the Palestinians.

No such outrage expressed by any of them about Iran, or any of the other conflicts.
