Five-year-old Jude Shalabi sustained a skull fracture after settlers threw stones at him near the Shavei Shomron settlement, while he was returning with his father from Naqoura to Tulkarm in the occupied West Bank.

Imagine if this was your child?

Imagine these were your children? You see how this works. Vilifying one ‘side’ when both are equally as appalling.

Isn't this a thread about a 5 year old boy badly injured by adults throwing stones at him from an area they occupy illegally?
Not sure where sexual violence by Hamas comes into it

If you read the whole thread you can keep up and luckily this one is only on page 2.

To make it easy, people were being criticised for NOT posting on this thread so I was pointing out that if not posting on a thread proves you don't care, some regular posters apparently don't care about sexual violence against Israelis by Hamas.

Because they can never, ever acknowledge that Israel or Israelis have done something wrong. They will always deflect.

This is absolutely evil

I’m afraid I can’t speak for ‘the group’ but I can explain my thoughts - I commented on that thread pretty late in the day and I think spoke about how it seemed like a very long time to conclude such a report. The reason I didn’t get involved earlier is because, embarrassingly, it took me a while to figure out how to get to the CITME board. For a long time, I was only looking at trending threads and Israel/Gaza ones didn’t really appear. Once I was a little more tech savvy, I commented on the most recent threads on the board, limiting myself because it’s not healthy/possible for me to spend all day debating on MN!

I think a lot of people, including myself, have condoned Hamas’s actions repeatedly and I believe I’ve used wording like “committing the worst atrocities on other humans” or similar - for me this includes the horrendous sexual violence in your thread but perhaps you feel is too vague and the actual crimes themselves need to be named/acknowledged so that the true horror is conveyed.

Ultimately, what you said before is correct - we post where we want to post. I do think that there a few very prolific posters who seem to be all over the CITME board. Like others, I am interested to see if they take a moment to comment on here as you and I have done (as regularly posters on similar threads).

You didn't comment on that thread at all (it was posted last month) - maybe you're thinking of another one.

Maybe you (as a reasonable person) can explain to me why so few on the pro Pal side were interested in discussing sexual violence used by Hamas against women (rape, mutilation etc) on 7/10 and in the aftermath?

That wasn't discussed much either by anyone on the pro Pal side. I may be wrong but couldn't help but wonder if people are much more interested in violence committed by Israelis than violence committed against them?

I'm not the person you asked, but my opinion is that obviously the sexual violence that was commited against Israelis by hamas is horrific, (so is all the sexual violence which is commited against Palestinians by Israelis) however it does not justify in any way the atrocities which Israel is committing against the Palestinians. Perhaps people don't want to discuss it with you and others who share your views because they think you are going to use it to try and justify those atrocities? Certainly that has been my experience when discussing things like that previously with people who support Israel 😢

It's sad when people who apparently have so much empathy don't care to comment on a thread about Hamas using sexual violence as a weapon on 7/10.

Just because they don't want to discuss it with me and others who share my views? They are happy to discuss other things with us every day on MN.

But still, no one has to comment on any thread they don't want to.

Settlers all need to be kicked out of the West Bank with a great big boot up their arses to help them on their way. Obviously Israel aren’t going to do that (instead they encourage settlers and settler violence), perhaps a third party should do it?

No idea. Other than possibly leave the extremists to get on with their attacks without protecting them, I doubt they would last very long.

what do you mean about distinctions? I have a lifelong friend who lives with her family in the West Bank (in a decades established town on occupied land not far over the green line). I don’t consider them the same as people in outposts who physically attack Palestinians and set fire to their land as they are a pretty normal family but I don’t think they should be living there. They don’t care what I think in that regard though.

I meant basically that: does it make a difference to you if someone is an extremist from Itamar or something random from Ariel? Thanks for answering that one.

I'll actually agree with you that withdrawing protection from them would probably go a at least some way. That and actually punishing violations on their part rather than punishing villagers for being attacked by them.

That said: I don't see this happening unless something drastically changes.

Whilst I agree that we all ultimately take part in the discussions we want to, I think it’s fair to say that the atrocities Hamas have committed are discussed and condemned quite regularly on these threads (and rightfully so).

The violence committed by settlers, from my time on these types of threads, isn’t discussed nearly as much despite it being relevant to discussions about why groups like Hamas appear and gain support.

I agree with @familylawyer01392 in that I think it’ll be interesting to see whether some of the more vocal members of these boards show up to this discussion and contribute their thoughts on settlers (which, as I said, is important when discussing how this might all end).

For example - none of you posted on my thread about sexual violence as a weapon of war during the 7/10 massacre (which went to 6 pages) but I hope that doesn't mean you just weren't interested.

Hello, firstly I have never seen your post and therefore could not comment, secondly I have simply asked why those who comment frequently on MN in support of Israel have been silent on this post. Not really sure what point you are trying to make here.

Enrichetta · 20/08/2025 18:21

Dismantling ALL the settlements and withdrawing from the occupied territories would go a long way towards resolving the conflict, or at least calming down the aggression and reduce atrocities on both sides.

Not many of us (maybe any of us?) support the Settlers or defend them.

There isn't much we can say about it this incident though beyond it's a disgrace how they behave and yes, the Israeli government shouldn't be allowing it yet alone planning to build more settlements.

SomeWomanSomewhere · 20/08/2025 16:54

AMillionTomorrows · 20/08/2025 16:30

I am a Zionist and Jewish and think this is an outrage. I do not support these settlers or their behaviour.

I am neither - though I have spent ample time in both Israel and Palestine and have got quite some personal experience with settlers.

Question out of genuine interest: what, from your (presumably liberal zionist?) view should be done about the settlements?

Do you make any distinctions?

Funny how certain people on this website who seem to post on every thread which remotely relates to Israel/Palestine are silent when it comes to things like this!

Eerily quiet, right?
