Hi ladies,
So I went to the fertility show today.
I felt it was an overall positive experience, it was really easy to talk to everyone. I'm definitively joining the DCN (Donor Conception Network). I have waited to do so as I was unsure whether there were some groups in London and I was told there are several groups and they meet every 3 weeks or so. I went to a session for single mothers by choice and it was really empowering to be in a room full of women going the same route.
I spent time talking to different natural fertility boosting techniques, such as acupuncture, fertility massages, reflexology, but I found it a bit overwhelming to be fair as they all look so great but are also all so expensive!! I'm going to stick to my yoga classes for the moment and think it over...
There is a book that is highly recommended to talk to our future children about the way they were conceived and which also has some tips to talk to adults in our different circles (the woman basically explained that we need to be ready to answer any question from any of these groups - e.g. relatives, close friends, work colleagues, teachers but also the supermarket cashier, etc as the question will pop up. What was great is that she said that as long as kids are told at a very early age (from 2 onwards), for them it is completely normal not to have a dad (or have 2 mums) and that studies have shown that kids do not suffer from the absence of a dad as long as they receive love from their mother. I know it seems obvious but it was so nice to hear it! Anyway, the book is called 'Modern families' and is written by Susan Golombok. There are also books for children that were created by the DCN and they're really cute.
Also, last night I decided I'm definitely getting a doula. I would like my mum to be with me in the delivery room but she doesn't speak English and doesn't know anything about the health system here so it makes sense to have someone who can support me 100% in the preparation to the birth and also in the few weeks after. If you haven't considered this yet, have a look at the Doula UK website
. I spoke to a massage therapist today and she used to be a doula and she strongly recommended it too.
This is an awfully long post - sorry!
Hope you all had a lovely weekend x
