Hi,

We were talking about this a lot on the charting thread and thought it would be good to start a separate thread.

There's about 3 of us at the moment but please do join us too if you are TTC with this added probem.

My results were 9.07 and then a few weeks later 5.5. I'm due another blood test in 5 weeks and hopefully my GP should be starting me on Thyroxin soon.

Quite worried cos the NHS guidelines say your numbers should be a lot lower when pregnant. still i haven't got that BFP yet so I guess I'll worry then.

ladygonegaga and Bessie26 - hurry up and join me here Grin.

louin - your chart probably won't mean much until you've done a while cycle - as super says, do have a look at the lessons on Fertility Friend, as they will help explain what's going on, and do join the lovely ladies over on the charting thread as they will help you make sense of it too!

super - I am always a nervous wreck the day before a scan, hope it all goes well for you, I guess at 5+4 you're not going to see much - don't think you get to even see a heartbeat until past 6weeks?

me - afraid I'm no expert on this thyroid stuff as I've only recently been diagnosed, but it does seem strange they're not giving you any meds... they must be taking things reasonably seriously to get your bloods done so regularly... Perhaps they think that your thyroid can't be that bad as it's managing to keep your T4 at a reasonable level (although on the low side) while you are pg?

Have you been to see a different GP? Don't know what your symptoms are, but have you properly explained them to your GP? I think when I told mine I was having to nap for 2hrs every afternoon and sleeping for 8-10hrs at night she realised I was serious when I said I "felt tired"!

I am consultant (rather than midwife) led, partly because of thyroid & partly because DD was 6wks prem, so I can now quiz him about my levels too. Is it possible to request to be consultant led?

I don't remember what my tsh was during pregnancy (I wasn't diagnosed till 6 months after DS was born) but I remember having a T4 level of 11 and I also remember feeling unbelievably ill that month and like all the strength had been sucked out of me. I really wish I'd known to push for medication back then, it could have made a real difference to how I'd coped.
In your situation your T4 seems so low, and coupled with any symptoms you are experiencing, I'd go back to the GP. Try a different GP in the practice if necessary.
Congratulations by the way Smile

hello everyone supersunnyday pointed me in the way of this thread had already posted on pregnancy board about my situation I'm currently 19+4 and not diagnosed with any thyroid problesm as yet, so here's a copy and paste (Sorry for the laziness)

"I have had my tfts done by g.p before pregnancy and during due to having lots of hypo symptoms(am 19 weeks now) the first pre preg showed tsh of 1.99 and free t4 of 9.6 which is below normal but because my tsh is fine docs weren't worred, 2nd tft at 11/40 tsh was 1.19 and free t4 of 12.4 low end of normal, as of 17 weeks my tsh was 1.09 and free t4- 9.6 again below normal.

I have read that during pregnancy free t4 should be in the upper end of range, does anyone know about free t4 and if anything could or should be done? they won't even refer me to endo"

lily and sunny have given me some advice saying I should see an endocrinologist even if I need to pay privatly so I am going to have a last ditch attempt to get referred on nhs if not will have to get credit card out.

If anyone has any more advice/esperience of low free t4 and normal tsh in pregnancy or not please let me know.

I wish you all the best if your efforts to concieve and congrats to those already pregnant.

hippychick66 - don't overdo it on the lactulose. One of the symptoms of being hypothyroid can be sluggish digestion and constipation, so the thyroxine might help with that, so the extra help from the lactulose might not be what you need!

Louin · 28/10/2010 16:33

Hi all, yes Bessie am doing charting everyday - its up and down like a yoyo! Is that normal? Am gonnaring docs tomo and get my TSH level off him as I cant remember what they said it was. BF cant get over that cannot stay awake psat 10pm tho :)

hippychick66 · 27/10/2010 22:36

She says to test every 4 months for a few times (unless i get preg then i need to test more often).

I do often feel very tired so am looking forward to feeling a bit more with it after 9pm Hmm.

No AF yet - but am NOT counting my chickens!!!!

what's worse - waiting to O or the 2WW?!

Glad you got your pills hippy & sounds good that they started you on 50mcg - how often do they want to re-test you?

I can't remember if you had any symptoms? - I think they say it can take a couple of weeks to feel the effects, but I started feeling less tired within a few days!

Fingers crossed the pills make AF piss off too Grin

hippychick66 · 27/10/2010 16:09

iggi When i first joined MN i was like, "Why is everyone so obsessed with this 2WW???" Hmm

I get it now [hgrin].

Free prescriptions is the one benefit!
If your TSH is above 2 (as it clearly is) and you're ttc then I def think you should be on thyroxine. Hopefully you'll see a quick improvement (and no af!) I'm in week 1 of the wait and slowly going mad.. Once the cheapo preg tests I've ordered arrive, I don't think I'll be able to wait.[hsad]

hippychick66 · 27/10/2010 10:31

Well it had gone back up to 6.9 (I forgot to get her to write all the results down so don't really know what that means). All I know is that it was 9.7 then 5.9 and now back up a bit. She has started me on 50mg of levothyroxine per day.

Is that good????

I get ALL my prescriptions for free now - which is a good side effect I guess. So i grabbed some free lactulose at the same time - gotta keep everything moving Blush

AF due at the week-end so just waiting, waiting waiting!! Hmm

Hope you got some good results Hippychick (or at least ones that don't leave you on the fence anymore).
Evening appointments do sound very civilised!

hippychick66 · 26/10/2010 17:28

docs at 7.20pm tonight (late night appointments - new thing). To get my 3rd test results.

I will try to get her to write it all down cos I usually just read the top line on the screen. I wonder if I'll ever get my hands on those tablets. Hmm

Love to all. X

well I finally spoke to the GP and although my levels are better (TSH now 6 was 10, T4 now 14 was 9) they have increased my dosage to 50mcg, so am hoping I will be feeling even less tired by the weekend! Grin

hippy fingers crossed for you tomorrow!

super I don't get any symptoms or MS until about 7 weeks. I found it strangely reassuring, and do miss it now it's stopped! Confused
I had a rotten cold when pg with DD & found hot lemon & honey with loads of sliced ginger in made me feel much better (after I have finished the drink I like to eat the sliced ginger - is that weird? DH says so!)

louin how are you getting on with charting? Hope you are remembering to take your temp every morning?!

Love to all.

iggi hope you are on hold somewhere nice? It is cold and wet where I am... DH is playing golf later -hahahaha!

I'm a bit peed off, phoned the GP yesterday morning to get my latest results & the receptionist told me I had to speak to a GP, so arranged for one to call me back, but of course they call while I'm at a friends for lunch and I miss the call. So I call them back again at 2 & ask them to call me back again - and they never do!

I was very tempted just to take an extra pill this morning ( I am assuming my levels must have got worse), but I guess waiting until Monday won't make much difference

hippy did you get your results back yet?

Supersunny that sounds fine to me, obviously if you feel an increase in thyroidy-type symptoms you'd want to be re-tested sooner, though it can be hard to distinguish between early pg feelings and thyroid! 25 is the standard increase. Hope the 12 weeks pass more quickly than you think!
Hippychick I wish I could (stop repeating myself) am on my phone as on hol at the moment and it has mind of its own. (I press the button once, ONCE I tell you!!)
If only DH was more like a blackberry, I'd probably be pregnant by now.
