TTC for June 2011 baby - anyone else?

jigglebum · 10/09/2010 17:56

DH and I are TTC no 2 but getting a little depressed at the lack of success so far. Thought a thread on here might help by chatting with others in a similiar situation as obviously not something we are shouting about in RL.

We have DS (2yrs 3 mths) and have been TTC since the start of the year. Last couple of months I have used OPKs and had convinced myself I was pregnant last month , but just a strange long cycle.

Anyone else fancy cheering each other up along the way of TTC?

Good luck to everyone, I've just had a BFP, was trying for a June baby too so might just get lucky :)
Fingers crossed for me, hoping it all goes well!
I got so many faint lines until the day my AF was due, I really didn't believe the test, even asked my fella to pee on one (he's not pregnant btw). In the end I got a clear blue digital and it just said "pregnant 1-2".
It's so hard to know if a line is a line it seems lol.
Ovulation sticks worked for me, but I know its not always that simple. Very Good luck!! xx

TerrysNo2 · 22/09/2010 09:50

jiggle my DS is 22 months, we have been thinking about no2 for about 6 months but finally decided to go for it recently. I do hope I will be one of the conceives first time people, doesn't everyone, but it would be nice to have people to chat to in case it doesn't happen. I am quite superstitious so haven't told anyone IRL we are trying but MN is an alternate world so can't influence the baby gods!! Grin

BTW - what is 2ww?? Its not in the acronyms!?!

jigglebum · 22/09/2010 09:18

Welcome TerrysNo2 and Scrummymum - nice to hear from you. Impressed about the new netbook pressie gettingonmynerves - not the sort of thing my DH does unfortunately!!

Terrys - how old is your DS? I know plenty of people who have conceived almost immediately after coming off the pill so no reason why you shouldn't this month.

Scrummy - I know what you mean regarding age gaps - my siblings and I are all 3 years apart (4 of us all with approx 3 years between us - certainly implies my mum had no troubles conceiving!) and I wanted that or a bit less for us. (Although not wanting 4 just 2!)

So scrummy, patchwork and I are all in the 2ww period (although at a guess it will be a bit over 2 weeks for me) - how about you gettingonmynerves?

Scrummymum · 21/09/2010 23:12

Hi,

I am ttc3 and this is my first month. I am in the 2ww now and desperately hoping that it won't take too long.

It took 6 months to conceive my DD who is now 6.5 and then I started to ttc2 and conceived after only 1 cycle but had a m/c. I then took 3 cycles to conceive my DS who will be 3 in December.

DC's will be 7 and 3.5 in June 2011 and every month that we try after that will make the age gap so much bigger.

TerrysNo2 · 21/09/2010 23:05

patchworkquilt I was thinking about using the "I'm trying to lose weight" excuse for not drinking, a pretty awkward one for someone to then ask - are you pregnant!! Smile

TerrysNo2 · 21/09/2010 22:55

Hi all

Wondering if I can join too, I am looking for a TTC thread to chat to other ladies and you seemed nice! DH and I are only started to try last month but as it was my first period since conceiving DS (totally unplanned and unexpected so this is out first time TTC-ing) so had no clue about dates. Started my period again yesterday, 28 days after the last one and so hoping I can now start predicting ovulation etc?? Really I haven't a clue!!

Just bought some ovulation tests from the internet and hope they will help but sounds like they can be hit and miss too?

So, do I qualify? Can I join?? Smile

gettingonmyownnerves · 21/09/2010 21:35

welcome to pinkcustard. I am typing from my brand new netbook, which dh bought for me as a surprise today - am so excited as we don't do extravagant gifts but great not to have to use his work computer for the internet anymore.

I have to confess that I don't avoid alcohol during the 2ww; I don't drink much anyway but I don't think alcohol would reach the embryo at such an early stage. Probably better not to get too hammered but a couple of drinks would be fine, I imagine.
You never know, the one time you do all the wrong things might just be lucky for you, like jigglebum.
well, it sounds like some are at the 'active' stage at the moment so hope you are busy making the most of it! good luck, hope this thread will be lucky for all!

jigglebum · 21/09/2010 18:57

Welcome pink custard. Really interesting to read your stats info - makes me feel better about our 9 months and no success so far.
Been using OPKs for last 5 days and got a very clear second line today (first time ever) and can feel a few lower ab pains so definitely time for lots of SWIing for the next few days. I am hoping (as ever!!) that this is a good sign for this month.

No real advice on the drink issue. It is hard enough when you are actually pregnant and don't want to tell people yet! I went to BILs wedding last month, when thought I could be pregnant (but did not know yet) and drank but not too much. I have the same dilemma - off to another wedding this Saturday - to drink or not to drink? I am bad at resisting so will probably just make my glass last as long as possible each time.

Having said that, when we were TTC DC1 it took 6 months and the month I did conceive I got really very wasted about a week before I knew and no obvious effects!

Ha - sadly I used that 'antibiotics' excuse with the same people a couple of months ago. They didn't buy it, but I wasn't pregnant in the end so they thought maybe I was telling the truth. I am thinking my OH will have to sit next to me and accidentally pick up my glass every second sip. Soooo complicated. To be honest, no one has mentioned where we should go, so maybe it wont happen :)

PinkCustard · 21/09/2010 14:10

Hello ladies, hope you don't mind me joining in...

I too have been TTC number 2 since January and am now becoming increasingly desperate!! But I have just read that the average time for a woman aged 30-35 (I'm 33) to fall pregnant is after 9 months of trying, which has made me feel much more positive.

I've been using a Clearblue Fertility Monitor since June and personally find it really good as I then know we've definitely 'done it' at the right time and means I can stop counting days and stressing all month long. I would recommend them but they are pricey, mine was about £67 from Amazon and then you need 10 sticks a month too.

The drinking thing is tricky Patchwork I know all of my friends would be instantly suspicious if I wasn't drinking. Can you say you're taking antibiotics for something?

patchworkquilt · 21/09/2010 13:50

gettingonmynerves - heheheh Oh my, what to say to the MIL. I was trying to think of things. Mine would be asking all sorts of inappropriate questions.

I just did my ovo test and got the smiley face I expected - CD14, as it is each month. This month I feel cramping, so hopefully my ovaries are working hard :) In a sad/desperate sort of way, I hope feeling and guessing it was my ovo day makes this month feel more likely to be THE ONE. Or is that a stretch too far?

14 days until I can test... I have a dinner of CD24, how the hell am I going to not drink? I need to fake it or my friends will guess. Any tips? I have made my OH drink my wine before, to put people off the scent, so they think it is going down... other tips?

gettingonmyownnerves · 20/09/2010 18:00

How is everyone doing? I was at MIL's for the weekend so no internet access and don't like posting from work,
Hope the colds are better,
patchwork, your gp sounds great and it's good that she's not worried for you - glad you feel better.
I've used the internet cheapie OPKs and never got a strong positive, even when I got pregnant with ds (like you, jigglebum) so don't really trust them.
I have been tracking my temp though but have left my thermometer under the pillow in MIL's spare room - not sure how I will explain that Blush

patchworkquilt · 16/09/2010 20:22

*pain, not plan I meant to type... off to bed for me I think

patchworkquilt · 16/09/2010 20:22

I know, it is crazy the cost. I don't seem to get ovulation plan and never have, so I am a bit addicted to them :)

jigglebum · 16/09/2010 15:16

hi - sorry about the cold too patchwork. I am all stocked up with oranges, multivits etc now and hope it does not affect our chances this month.

Interesting to hear what your dr had to say - she sound lovely! I thought if I am not pregnant by xmas I will go then. Don't worry about long posts - it is good to have people to chat with I think so share away!

I have tried the boots own predictor kits. found I don't really get much of a line though but definitely get some reaction for 2 days at the time of my cycle when I think I am ovulating too- so a bit reassuring but annoying I never get a proper line. It does annoy me how expensive they are though - 15 quid for seven, when I bet they hardly cost anything to produce. just preying on women's insecurities I reckon.

patchworkquilt · 16/09/2010 11:47

Hi all - Colds here too. Bugger!

gettingonmynerves -
I use the ClearBlue digital fertility predictor thingies (you get 7 in a pack). They aren't cheap, but I had tried the cheap internet ones and never, ever got an indication that I was ovulating, but got pregnant with my DS, so not convinced about those (although I wonder if I was not using them at the right time of day, in retrospect). The CB one's have shown me ovulating on the exact same day each month, which if nothing else, feels reassuring.

Went to the doctor this morning - asked about my shortening cycles (they were 28/29 and have in the last few months been 26/27) - she said, for my age (39) this is normal and nothing to worry about. She asked how long the actual AF lasted too - for me five days, again she felt this was fine too. I also asked if after trying for six months (a little fib because I was wondering if she wouldn't take me seriously if I said four), I should get 'checked out'. She said, given me age, she would still recommend I keep trying and come see her if I haven't had success early next year. She was very reassuring and not at all patronising about the length of time I had been trying - to quote her 'one month seems alot if you really want to be pregnant, so don't be too hard on yourself for worrying, but I am not worried for you yet'. I feel so much better for having talked to her.

Sorry for the long post, if feels good to share and I hope in some way these things help - although each of us are different.

jigglebum · 16/09/2010 10:14

Morning - no not tried a fertility monitor gettingonmynerves. I think I am going to try having lots of sex this month and next before I think about more options!

However, have caught DS's cold and just at the wrong time for SWI ing. Off to buy multivits, orange juice etc this morning to try and recover asap.

OP posts:
gettingonmyownnerves · 15/09/2010 20:49

I had a look at the other group too and most seem to have been trying a lot longer than me so thought that I might be intruding a bit - anyway, I don't think I'm ready to accept I'm 'having problems' just yet.
Sorry to hear about your cold, patchwork, let us know how you get on with the gp.
Think I'm over the disappointment for this month and ready to focus on the next cycle.
I am wondering about investing in a fertility monitor? anyone any experience with this? I feel I need to do something different every month, they are pretty expensive though.
Whatever about the monitor, I definitely need to invest in some new sexy underwear to maintain dh's interest and stop the whole thing from getting too serious!

patchworkquilt · 15/09/2010 08:35

jigglebum - I agree about the other link/group, I think it is lovely, but I did come off it thinking 'should I ask my doctor about IVF' and I think that might be a bit counterproductive for me mentally right now.

I feel a cold coming on, but I am trying to convince myself that won't effect our next month of trying. :( I am seeing a doctor tomorrow though, for other reasons, so I am going to ask about the shortening cycles.

jigglebum · 14/09/2010 17:03

Gettingonmynerves - sorry to hear about your AF. fingers crossed for the next cycle. I hate the wait too and always end up testing too early - despite promising myself I wont. It is so easy to convince yourself you have pregnancy symptoms isn't it and then you are even more disappointed. Patchwork - hope the psychic is right!

Had a quick look at the other thread linked to above but alot of people on there seems to be undergoing or investigating fertility problems , which I am hoping not to have to think about yet so have come away! nice to be a small group - I can keep up with what is going on better.

OP posts:
patchworkquilt · 14/09/2010 14:51

OMG! My cycles seem to be getting shorter too - what do you think that means? It has been niggling away in the back of my mind... I made a doctors appointment for something else for Thursday, but I am going to ask what they think too.

Psychic said I am either pregnant or will be 'anytime' between 6-8 weeks for a BFP, she said she normally gives months, but it was too close. That has sort of made it worse, so I am not sure I would recommend it. Unless of course i get pregnant in the next 6-8 weeks :)

gettingonmyownnerves · 14/09/2010 14:32

Thanks patchwork, I always spotted for a day or so before af but the last few months it's been 5 to 6 days and cycles getting shorter. Thinking I might need to visit my gp as it seems like my body has 'decided' I'm not pregnant only 8 DPO, which doesn't seem right to me.
I know what you mean about it preparing you - at least now my 2ww is a lot shorter and I'm not obsessing over imaginary symptoms Smile
I haven't gone down the psychic reading route but am getting so fed up I wouldn't rule anything out! Did you get any interesting info?

patchworkquilt · 14/09/2010 13:57

gettingonmynerves sorry to hear about AF - is spotting a new thing to you too (sorry don't think you had said before)? It is tough, but in some way it sort of prepares me a little - spotting is new to me in the last two cycles. Have any of you been a bit desperate for some positive news and invested in a psychic reading for pregnancy? I did Blush

gettingonmyownnerves · 14/09/2010 13:48

Have been offline the last few days. AF just arrived so on CD1 again! I am 36 so in between you too.
I've used pre-seed the last few months, but obviously not with any success. I've also tried OPKs but don't always get a dark line either so don't really trust them. I think it helps to feel like we are doing something and have some control over the situation.
There must be something in the air, my ds was awake with a cold as well last night! Although it was reading the thread on how much people spend on their dcs for Christmas that made me think we should stop at 1!

RunLyraRun · 14/09/2010 12:41

Why don't you guys hook up with these ladies, who seem to be in the same situation? Good luck x
