the shock of becoming a grandmother next year is morphing into surprise and excitement

but also anxiety that, if a boy, might be called cassius

I like her suggestions for girl's names, especially Harmony as have niece called Melody and nephew called Jazz and other musical themed names throughout wider family, is a nice tradition

so suppose am asking primarily for boy's name ideas to suggest in helpful way (she does WANT ideas) - have trawled this section (ok have scanned one or two pages) and nothing feels a particularly good fit so far

tempo emerging as v strong contender

think am going to start using some of these names for chickens, too good to waste (unless grandchild ends up with about a million middle names)

There are a lot of musicians out there. Pick any name and some musician somewhere will have it.

I don't know, Elvis has a certain appeal...

Shout me down but if you are going for musical terminology how about Tempo or Ledger? Are they names?

Personally I would avoid them but you could go for famous musicians if you're hell bent on the music theme. Johann, Amadeus, Gustav or stick to something sensible such as Benjamin (Brittain, Edward or Samuel.

For something more modern Liam Gallagher called his son Lennon... in any case avoid Elvis!!

LuluF · 06/07/2010 14:38

darn it! Def won't use it then.

Milo is nice - but the other thing worth bearing in mind is kids tv shows - there's a Milo on the Tweenies. Might not bother you though.

What was the name of your old cat?

I think Cassius is a great name - but what about Caspar?

I like Benedict - but having married into a Catholic family, I'm not all that keen on 'naming the child after the Pope' - I wouldn't be - but I'd be horrified that they might think that.

As for other Pope's names - what about Leo?

I can't think of any musically inspired boys' names at the mo - though maybe something will come to me...

MitchyInge · 06/07/2010 14:07

you are all so imaginative - thanks, I wonder which ones she (and he, must not forget there is paternal involvement here) will like?

the great grandather on her side has our actual surname as his first name, in fact is the third generation to be called that (American though, they are completely odd with names aren't they!) and your child has the father's surname as a first name - coincidence-osity

these are really lovely ideas so far, thank you
