the shock of becoming a grandmother next year is morphing into surprise and excitement

but also anxiety that, if a boy, might be called cassius

I like her suggestions for girl's names, especially Harmony as have niece called Melody and nephew called Jazz and other musical themed names throughout wider family, is a nice tradition

so suppose am asking primarily for boy's name ideas to suggest in helpful way (she does WANT ideas) - have trawled this section (ok have scanned one or two pages) and nothing feels a particularly good fit so far

What's wrong with Cassius?

Honestly, unless they were planning on calling him SuperMan Jesus the third, i think you should be happy with a healthy grandson.

And you should be happy that they are telling you. I didn't tell anyone about the names I'd chosen with DH. In fact, I didn't even tell my mother I was PG with DS, I made DH do it.

If I were you, I'd be pleased with the relationship you have with them. If they saw this thread, that might change

MitchyInge · 06/07/2010 13:38

um just because it has unfavourable connotations, like that one who was put to death

obviously will be thrilled to have grandchild either way, daughter just ASKED me to garner some more ideas that's all

Oh, sorry.. I thought perhaps you;d taken it upon yourself...

let me have a think....

Harper??

MitchyInge · 06/07/2010 13:49

(am terrified of becoming interfering old bat actually, the father grew up in a very different sort of household and I hope I don't end up sticking my oar in if he brings scary ideas like smacking etc)

that's a nice name, will be alliterative with his surname which can work really well can't it?

ah am so excited am actually wriggling about in my chair

(or maybe I just need a wee?)

Benedict?

MitchyInge · 06/07/2010 13:53

I like (except is not my favourite pope)

is good to be able to offer opinions that are not mine, as can see that wanting to use name of one of our old cats is not ideal

or ziggy stardust or whatever

the things that go through own mind are supremely unhelpful to be honest

Well... here's my (musically oriented) list:

I have to say, I'm a fan of 'surname' names (I know not everyone is!)

Lennon
Bard
Costello
Piper

I have to say, Harper is my favourite. I'd use that... (I have a Harrison already!)

MitchyInge · 06/07/2010 14:02

the great grandather on her side has our actual surname as his first name, in fact is the third generation to be called that (American though, they are completely odd with names aren't they!) and your child has the father's surname as a first name - coincidence-osity

these are really lovely ideas so far, thank you

Amadeus
Wolfgang
Johann
John Paul George Ringo
Pan
Cliff
Luciano
Sax
Tempo
Adagio

MitchyInge · 06/07/2010 14:07

you are all so imaginative - thanks, I wonder which ones she (and he, must not forget there is paternal involvement here) will like?

What was the name of your old cat?

I think Cassius is a great name - but what about Caspar?

I like Benedict - but having married into a Catholic family, I'm not all that keen on 'naming the child after the Pope' - I wouldn't be - but I'd be horrified that they might think that.

As for other Pope's names - what about Leo?

I can't think of any musically inspired boys' names at the mo - though maybe something will come to me...

cyteen · 06/07/2010 14:31

Jimi

thumbwitch · 06/07/2010 14:35

Jett
Blue
Ska
Slash
Axel
Ray

just a few to be going on with!

MitchyInge · 06/07/2010 14:35

cat was Milo! was born into RC family so papal link leapt to mind immediately

MitchyInge · 06/07/2010 14:37

oh these are such fab names, loads of potential inspiration, thank you

there is NOTHING mn can't help with is there

OP posts:
LuluF · 06/07/2010 14:38

darn it! Def won't use it then.

Milo is nice - but the other thing worth bearing in mind is kids tv shows - there's a Milo on the Tweenies. Might not bother you though.

eatyourveg · 06/07/2010 15:12

Shout me down but if you are going for musical terminology how about Tempo or Ledger? Are they names?

Personally I would avoid them but you could go for famous musicians if you're hell bent on the music theme. Johann, Amadeus, Gustav or stick to something sensible such as Benjamin (Brittain, Edward or Samuel.

For something more modern Liam Gallagher called his son Lennon... in any case avoid Elvis!!

I don't know, Elvis has a certain appeal...

cyteen · 06/07/2010 17:14

How about Elgar? A quirkier alternative to Edgar/Edward

clpsmum · 06/07/2010 17:42

How about
Harper
Piper
Dylan (bob)
Lennon (john)
Harrison (George)
Marley (Bob)

cyteen · 06/07/2010 17:54

I like Marley actually - DP knows a lovely Marley.

MitchyInge · 06/07/2010 17:57

ooooh so many interesting suggestions

at 39 am I too old to have another baby of my own?

OP posts:
LuluF · 06/07/2010 18:06

I think there's a forum for that!
