We're expecting our first baby in dec/jan
My partner is welsh and so were my grandparents and we are looking into welsh names
they really like dafyd, which is a good name in wales but I suspect may become daffy like the duck in england
welsh girls names seem easier somehow, more familiar/easy spelling and pronunciation, so any ideas for boy names?

Wyn, Tomos (Welsh for Thomas), Gwylim (Welsh for William), Osian, Elis, Iwan and Llewellyn

Iolo
Ieuan
Gwyn
Rhodri

are all nice. Of those, probably Gwyn is the only one which would be reliably correctly pronounced in England though.

If I’d have had a boy Id have likely gone with Emrys. It’s easy to say and spell in England too.

Love welsh names. I was born there but now live in England.

My DD is Cerys.

Boy names we considered were;

Owen (love)
Hywel
Huw

Sorry that should say wouldnt end up like daffy the duck

RhosynBach · 20/07/2023 15:19

Dafydd has no ff sound in it so would end up like daffy the duck. It usually gets shortened to daf which sounds like Dav. Many English people find it hard to say and say David or Davvid though so might be a tricky one if you live in England

other welsh boy names you could consider are
Dylan
Aled
Owen
Gethin
Idris
Rhys
Efan
Hari
Cai
Elis
Iwan
Tomos
Osian
Jac

I doubt that they like Dafyd, seeing as it's not a name.

Dewi is due a comeback.
