Beautiful name. Great pick. Mina doesn't need a 'full name'.

minipie · 23/06/2023 09:37

It’s lovely and I don’t think it needs a longer version personally. But if you wanted one I’d pick Marina over Wilhemina or Philomena etc.

My mother’s name was Mena. I’ve never seen it spell Mina. Either way it’s a beautiful name.

This is strange to me, because I have come across the name Mina many times but never once a Mena.

User1438423 · 23/06/2023 09:22

I really like it, and My Name is Mina, the prequel to Skellig is one of my absolute favourite children's books, even better than Skellig.

MRSBoredsome · 23/06/2023 09:19

Mina is a common female name in Japan. I quite like the name. One of a japanese members in kpop group " twice " is called mina.

SomethingAboutNothing · 23/06/2023 09:11

I know a Marina that goes by Mina.
I like it op it's a pretty name.

Mamaneedsadrink · 23/06/2023 09:09

Lovely. Can be spelt Mina or Meena

Junotempest · 23/06/2023 09:08

Suggestions on nicest full name? Agree it’s good for her to have options when she’s older but we’ll likely use Mina day to day.

Nice as a diminutive. Not keen as a standalone name though.

Junotempest · 23/06/2023 08:33

Thanks everyone for your comments, on balance it seems like a well liked name and we will go for it!

I know a 2yr old Mina. Pronounced Mee-na. Lovely. We also live near a Mina Road so 2yr old Mina often stops for a photo near the sign apparently.

daretodenim · 22/06/2023 22:20

Mina is a Coptic Egyptian male name.

I've never heard it for a girl/female.

AllPlayedOut · 22/06/2023 22:17

I'm Scottish too and I'd also immediately pronounce it like Nina.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 22/06/2023 22:07

I like it and also like others think of Dracula. I would pronounce it to rhyme with Nina but apparently I’m at odds with other Scots posting here. Never actually met one in real life.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/06/2023 17:48

Bram Stoker's "Mina" Murray was the immediate reference for me too. Lovely choice- an elegant, international name (although I don't think it's very common in the UK, so she might occasionally have to correct "Nina?")

Junotempest · 20/06/2023 14:47

Seems to be quite an international name. Mina Sundwall the actress is a nice contemporary association I thought

I know a beautifully elegant, Iranian lady with this name, suits her very well. She pronounces it Mee-na 😍

Buttercupsdaisiesdandelions · 20/06/2023 11:45

Every Mina I've met (and I've met lots!) has been an old lady named Williamina. I'd be charmed to meet a young Mina, but I would assume it was short for something.

I'd pronounce it Mine-ah (Scottish)

LaBefana · 20/06/2023 08:02

@MissHoollie

Pronounced Mine - ah

I live close to a Mina Road, pronounced that way. Strangers to our district sometimes pronounce it to rhyme with dinner or cleaner.

Namastaymyassathome · 20/06/2023 07:58

I would also assume Mine-a; I’m Scottish and have an elderly relative called Mina pronounced this way

Junotempest · 20/06/2023 07:53

Wilhelmina nickname Mina?

I tend to say meaner as meen nuh and Mina as mee na although not a huge difference. Didn’t really occur to me though despite being familiar with the name

OP posts:
WillyLows · 20/06/2023 07:08

What's the pronunciation? I think it's pretty but wouldn't know to say Minna, Meee-na or My-na. That might get annoying for Mina.

user1492757084 · 20/06/2023 06:03

Not a fave for me.

How about ..
Jasmina
Jazmin
Minerva
Hermione
Wilhelmina
Philomena
Mary - Minnie

CafeNervosa · 19/06/2023 21:43

Meaner?
