Fallen in love with this for baby girl. Have changed my mind weekly though 🙈

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love Enid

It was on my list for baby number three (we had a boy)

BeefSupreme · 06/11/2021 15:49

Are you a fan of “Ghost World”, op?

but I mostly cook boys
Hmm

sageandbasil · 06/11/2021 15:51

I think it's a great name

ladygindiva · 06/11/2021 15:52

I know a newborn Ena, which I think is lovely and similar?

Onlinedilema · 06/11/2021 15:59

I love it.

dannydyerismydad · 06/11/2021 16:05

Every Enid I have known has been sweet, gentle and absolutely delightful. But I've never met a tiny one.

Goldbar · 06/11/2021 16:20

Not a fan. How about Eliza, Jean or Annis?

TempsPerdu · 06/11/2021 17:00

@Clementineapples DD is Greta. Other vintage names we considered were Frida, Sylvia, Honor, Hazel, Vita and Flora.

We wanted fairly unusual but not weird, strong rather than cutesy/frilly, straightforward to say and spell, and ideally vaguely international.

Not fussed about a name being harsh-sounding, but I’m personally not keen on the -id sound in Enid and to me it says Blyton/Hey Duggee cat/Mildred Hubble’s friend from The Worst Witch. Smile

TempsPerdu · 06/11/2021 17:13

Just searched Enid on Nameberry and it also suggested these as similar in style:

Sybil
Alma
Agnes
Agatha
Isolde
Edith
Ethel

Maud
Winifred

(Not personally keen on those though other than maybe Isolde).

BiscuitLover09876 · 06/11/2021 17:32

I like Enid. You don't hear it very often and I was a big fan of the worst witch.

AnyaMoondial · 06/11/2021 17:43

I really like it.

I also recommend Agnes, Agatha and Millicent. All brilliant names.

DukkaDukka · 06/11/2021 17:46

Love Clara. I really don’t like Enid.

Spidey66 · 06/11/2021 17:47

I don't hate it, but prefer Elsie and Edith/Edie

DoodleBelle · 06/11/2021 17:52

Not keen on Enid. I like Edie or Lydia, Clara, Flora, Hazel as suggested by PP.

Totally with you on changing your mind a million times! I’m currently expecting a girl and she’s had lots of names too. We had a boys name picked out straight away! Girls names are very difficult to settle on as there are so many lovely ones. I do enjoy reading about different names though.

PuppyMonkey · 06/11/2021 17:53

It’s a no from me. There’s cute old lady names and then there’s… well, Enid, Beryl and Pauline. Grin

JustYourAverageSue · 06/11/2021 18:01

What about Eden or Evan? Similar to Enid but less old fashioned.

hotmeatymilk · 06/11/2021 18:21

I’ve got an Enid and obviously I think it’s brilliant, but I’d prefer if you didn’t, OP – I’d like her to stand alone, not be another Sarah/Emma/Olivia.

Also: Beulah! Confused

CallMeNutribullet · 06/11/2021 18:25

I really like Enid, I think it's cool. I'm Scottish so maybe don't get the complaints about the way it sounds

GemmaRuby · 06/11/2021 18:27

I really like Enid.
Also like Ida, Maeve and Cora or Cara.

PeigiSu · 06/11/2021 18:28

I don’t mind it. Another one who thinks of the cat in Hey Duggee though. And DS calls all cats Enid at the moment. Just to warn you!

AuntDympna · 06/11/2021 18:41

How do you say it? I always thought it was "Ee-nid", like Enid Blyton.
There's an Irish name Aodhnat the t is soft almost to a d, but also the Aodh is ay. Nat is purely a feminine ending.

GlitchStitch · 06/11/2021 18:46

I love it. Makes me think of the character from the Sweet Valley books.

Chunkymenrock · 06/11/2021 18:48

Holy shite, it's awful! Sounds a bit like Penis and very harsh.

Roselilly36 · 06/11/2021 19:01

Awful,IMHO, I love lots of older style names but Enid is not one of them.

hotmeatymilk · 06/11/2021 19:02

Holy shite, it's awful! Sounds a bit like Penis
You perhaps want your hearing checked.
