Fallen in love with this for baby girl. Have changed my mind weekly though 🙈

It's beautiful and unusual. Go for it, OP!

I can't understand all the posters saying it's harsh - how is it harsh? It sounds soft and gentle to me.

@KeflavikAirport

makes me think of the vermicious knid.

While it's not my favourite name I don't dislike it. I certainly be put off by the small chance my child may get a totally inoffensive nickname because of it!

MollysDolly · 11/11/2021 10:21

@Spidey66

Even if she does get nicknamed Enid Blyton, its hardly on a par with calling a boy Adolf or Osama and then being surprised at the taunts in the playground. Being called Enid Blyton is pretty inoffensive in the grand sceme of things.
I wasn't suggesting Blyton was offensive. Just that it's likely to happen.

DS has a nickname of a boardgame! Because if you say his first two initials and surname very fast, it sounds like the name of this game. It's not offensive. But it's definitely irritating to hear all his peers refer to him as "Cluedo" (it's not that one). Because of the name I chose. Of course, it's not a real problem, but I don't think I'd want to potentially set my daughter up for Blyton.

It reminds me of Enid Blyton - I like it :)

furbabymama87 · 09/11/2021 19:54

It's horrible.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 09/11/2021 19:50

I think of Enid from the Worst Witch before I think of Enid Blyton, and I read pretty much anything she’s ever written when I was a child.

MollysDolly · 09/11/2021 19:22

@hotmeatymilk

She will be nicknamed Blyton at school. Only if kids are still reading Enid Blyton, which they aren’t. That’s like saying “don’t call him David, he’ll be nicknamed Walliams”.

Biased but I think it’s better than Evie as pp suggested because Evie is now a ten-a-penny name, the way Sarah-Jane used to be. At least our choice is wildly unpopular! Grin

Err not quite. David Beckham. David Seaman. David Walliams. David Attenborough. David James. David and bloomin Goliath. And loads more.

Enid.....

Blyton.

It will be her nickname. You underestimate middle school children with access to the internet.

DS13 has a friend called "Bernie" or at least that's what I thought he was called for the last 6mths. Turns out his name is eg. Fred. But his surname is "Manning". So he's Bernie. As in Bernard. Manning. The comedian from the 70s, as in 50yrs before these kids were born.

I like Enid, I also like Emerald, and Edna, Eden, they are good cat names too lol.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 09/11/2021 13:16

It's not the best name, but it's not the worst.

I really doubt it!

I doubt it, tbh. Otherwise everyone who had the same name as someone famous would get a nickname. My names Anne, I’ve never had the nickname Princess, for instance. Even if she did get the nickname Blyton, so what? It’s hardly offensive!
HeckinMiffed · 08/11/2021 21:51

Love Enid. a classic name. It was my late grandmothers name so I'm used to it. She's the only Enid I've ever known apart from Blyton. Its definitely unusual but I do like it.
Evie is popular round here too.

I know a little Enid. I like it

Marcipex · 08/11/2021 20:28

Undone?

Whitecushion · 08/11/2021 16:38

Undine?

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 08/11/2021 14:17

@Marimaur

Cool, in a similar vein to Margot, but less try hard.
I'm never quite sure why it's bad to try hard? But that aside surely Enid would be the 'try hard' name as it's far rarer. Margots are everywhere these days.
autumnkate · 08/11/2021 14:11

I know one who is about 5.

I think it is horrendous.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/11/2021 10:42

You mean Edith OP, don’t you?

That’s MUCH nicer

Wheeliebinsoutinthemorning · 07/11/2021 00:07

Oops, perhaps it can be mispronounced. We’re in Devon not in Wales and I hadn’t realised there was an alternative way to say it..

Are you near Wales, @Clementineapples?

Wheeliebinsoutinthemorning · 07/11/2021 00:02

When I heard a year ago that my friends had named their baby Enid I was a bit surprised, but now I really love the name and it suits her.

It’s short, easy to spell and difficult to mispronounce.
