Living with a name you don't LOVE

My OH and I cannot agree on a name at all. We like many of the same ones, but we each have one or two we really love, and the other just likes but doesn't love.

So either we go with a name that I love and OH just likes a lot, or OH loves and I just like a lot. I'm guessing this can't be that uncommon, can it? Is there anybody who settled for a name they really like, but don't LOVE? How is it? Do you grow to love it over time?

Dd2, thought I loved the name, then spent the first year thinking we should have called her something else but finally got to the stage where it seems like the right name. DH was happy with the name and didn't have same doubts as me.

I settled for DD and I have to say that I really adore her name now and I'm glad we picked it although it took me a good year to start to to like it.

DD we both liked the name, though I was silly and only really thought of the long name (say Elizabeth) when we all knew that really she'd be "Lizzie" all the time. If you'd have asked me before I had her, no way would I have a DD called Lizzie. I'm not even sure in the cold light of day if I even like "Lizzie". But it's her name and it suits her so well. I quite liked the fact that it slightly felt as though the decision was taken away from me and I was just given a DC already named.

I'm due a DS in 2 months time and OH and I had exactly the same issue as you're having. We both agreed on quite a few names that we liked but didn't absolutely love. OH has a (family) name he has always loved and I've never been too keen on - but seeing how it was between a name we both felt a bit "s'alright, I suppose" about and a name at least one of us loved, we decided to go with the name that one of us loved.

Me and my husband could not agree at all on names for our son before he was born. We eventually both settled for a name we each liked (but my husband liked it more than me, I still had doubts pre-birth). Within a day of our son arriving I had fallen in love with the name as it represented my baby and I now absolutely love it. I would not have predicted I would ever love this name before I was pregnant but now I'm so glad we chose it.

themoon has pretty much written my post for me! DH actually chose DD's name from a list we'd agreed on (I got to choose the boy name but she was a girl obviously). Although I liked it, I definitely didn't love it at first. It took a while, but I really love it now and it suits her so well. My only regret is, DH had two favourites and one was longer and sometimes I wish we'd gone with the longer name so she would have more nn options.
