Overdue with boy no2 - help distract me with name advice!

To distract me from prospect of another hospital induction what do you think of these names?
Rowan
Jago
Conrad
Frankie (Frances, I guess)
Joss
Lorcan
Douglas

Think Rowan is my only realistic first name from the above (seasonal, nature etc. Also like Cedar and Aspen from tree names but probably too faddy for me). I love Conrad but not sure I can do that to a child! Also love Joss but we have a short surname. Think Jago is good for middle name?

Last time I had an actual list, and then we chose a name that wasn't on it (Alex/ander).

Any preferences? X

I love Josiah (after he of the Wedgwood company - and my dad's side of the family is from Stoke) but think husband not convinced. Might try a bit harder :-)

Joss is a great name- I had many older relatives mistake my son Josh (short for Joshua) for Joss and they still refer to him as Jossy. Joss and even Josiah don't even seem to raise eyebrows with older folks. It's a great name

Hmm, think Woody might be a bit too cartoony with a W surname and I do think you'd need a "proper" name too as it's not really in the same vein as Alexander is it?

You could have Doogy short for Douglas which is close-ish.

Theo is nice. I guess you'd have to consider:

How likely your brother is to have children
How likely is it that those children would be boys
How likely is it that his partner would also love the name Theo...

So, on that note, I think if you like it, just use it. We have a large family and have loads of cousins with the same names as each other. My Mums sister named her two boys the same as two of my brothers. Her brother has a daughter with the same name as my sister. And then when people start getting married and you add in partners names the doubles keep stacking up. My kids have 3 Uncles with the same name, 2 cousins and another Uncle that share another name and so on...

Hiya - still here, thought some banging fireworks might jolt things into action but no such luck...

Thanks for all the responses/ suggestions. Now I'm confused and think DH has gone off Rowan a bit Confused.

DH has cousins called Malachy and Ruari and friends with DCs called Kian, Dara and Conor. I do like Dara though.

I forgot Theo and Wilfred (nns Freddie/Wilf) from my original list. My brother loves Theo but doesn't have any children - is it bad to use a name that you know someone else would use?

Also love Woody but probably only as a diminutive of something else. Our surname begins with W - would our kid sound like a cartoon character??

Love Rowan!
I like Joss too but it's a bit nicknamey to me. Would use it as nn for Joshua, Josiah or Joseph maybe.

Thank you :) we think so - he definitely was never going to be little - now on course for 6'4" eek! Born dark - went blond and thankfully now a dark teen :)

Nope Iora it's the one that means dark or swarthy but not little - if you can work that out in Gaelic. :)

V curious as to which one it was myotherusername! My guess for is Marius or Matthias :p
I like all of those boys names anyway. I'm having a girl though so they are shelved for now...

For what it's worth, from your ideas I like Frankie best, although Francis not so much and Dougie, again rather than Douglas.

Douglas is often shortened to Doogie (it's an accent thing!) in Scotland rather than Duggie if that makes sense?

The twin of Alex in the programme about the Millenium babies was called Ivo which also goes nicely with Alex.

You can't have Alistair as that is basically the same name as Alexander. It'd be like having James and Hamish.

James would also go well, or Keir

I like Lorcan, Douglas and Rowan or how about Calvin instead of Conrad to give a bit more of a Scottish influence.

Rowan - not a an, it's a bit wet imo, and always seemed more of a girls name to me. Plus the Mr Bean thing.
Jago - reminds me of the parrot in Aladdin - Iago I think?)
Conrad - love
Joss - as in Stone. No. What about Josh?
Frankie - if the full name is Frank, I like this
Lorcan - love
Douglas - quite like

Ruairi or Rory would bridge the Irish/Scottish thing nicely. Also love Alistair.

Rowan is my favourite but then I would say that as I have one!

There's actually about 5 times as many male Rowans as there are female if the stats are anything to go by (and they are).

I also like Francis, I'm thinking of that for DS2. Frankie is a cute nn.

For the Irish connection how about Seamus (sort of sounds like Hamish which you like)?

Conrad is awesome by the way. On our shortlist which is similar to Conrad is Corran (a village in west coast of Scotland)
