Help!! Difficult choice of boys names: Sean, Daniel or Balonz?

Dear MNers. Hoping you might all be able to help us out as we’re having real difficulty agreeing a name for DS due soon. For DD, we went 'rare'. Weren’t sure we were quite ready to find some ultra-weird name, but equally there are millions of Kates, Elizabeths and so ons.

For DD though, we’re thinking a much more traditional name, perhaps inspired by close friends/family. What are MNers’ thoughts on either Sean, Daniel or Balonz? Many thanks in advance!

Creeps sheepishly back into thread...

Wow, I guess Balonz really isn't as popular a name as I thought it was! Confused I'm surprised it's not appearing anywhere though - are people sure they are spelling it right? It's B - A - L - O - N - Z.

KatieKaye sorry, I think I'm too embarrassed to reveal DD's name now - if you all find Balonz so unusual, I dread to think what you'd think of her much rarer name!

Maybe you could comment on my thread, IAmBalonz - I'd appreciate your thoughts

Excuse me

GiantGraspingCeramicFist · 01/10/2014 22:48

My throat hurts from laughing Grin

Just think OP, if he's one of those babies born with really long nails, you could announce his birth with "Look at the talons on Balonz!"

LynetteScavo · 01/10/2014 22:47

I've never heard of the name Balonz before, but it's brilliant.

OP, please call your child Balonz!

Sean and Daniel are just dull in comparison!

(there have been two with Bingo as a middle name and two with Wings as a middle name; it must now be a MN campaign to pair them off and persuade them to name a child Bingo Wings Lastname as a "family name")

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 01/10/2014 22:28

There were, in fact, no children named Balonz born between 1916 and 2005 -- although there was one Balon and one Bhalon.

PlopTheOwl · 01/10/2014 21:47

1 Balonz

2 Balonzi

ashtrayheart · 01/10/2014 21:44

I have never properly laughed at an mn thread like right now Grin adolf and bingowings finished me off!!

BestIsWest · 01/10/2014 21:42

Dear me, I am actually crying here.

FinDeSemaine · 01/10/2014 21:41

This is brilliant. Roaring here, too.

PacificDogwood · 01/10/2014 21:34

Balonz seems to be a last name according to the inter web my sources. In Surrey and word wide.

You do realise you've started a trend on MN, OP, don't you?
There is Balonz popping up all over the place!

Castlemilk · 01/10/2014 21:29

Flipwit, that would be great but the trouble is nobody outside of Surrey would be able to pronounce it.

That's the trouble with these hyper-regional names. Unless you live there (and always plan to) it's always a complete no-goer.

flipwit · 01/10/2014 21:21

Grin proper cheered me up this thread! Please do it, you might start a wave of little babies called Balonz Smile

GiniCooper · 01/10/2014 21:20

Sistermoonshine

The fada is on the a as in Seán.
Your fada on the e would make the name sound like Shane.

OP, I think Bollox is a lovely name...

VeryStressedMum · 01/10/2014 21:17

Funniest thing I've read in a long time. Grin

Only1scoop · 01/10/2014 21:13

Just love saying it loud and proud
"Balonz" Grin

Great word

Allalonenow · 01/10/2014 21:08

I'm liking Balonz, as mentioned above it's not over used so no worries that in his class he will be one of six called Balonz, it's got some good nn possibilities such as Bal, Onzo, Ballo, Lonzy.
It's a name with a bit of a kick, and floats off the tongue easily.
It passes the high court judge test too, eg Judge Balonz Gladstone.

Best of all it has its own song, "99 red Balonz" !

Superlovely · 01/10/2014 20:48

Please please please call your baby Balonz.Grin

KatieKaye · 01/10/2014 20:42

PS - am now wondering what DD is called. OP said her name was "rare" yet she thinks Balonz is "traditional".

KatieKaye · 01/10/2014 20:41

I find it rather hard to believe that OP has never noticed that friend Balonz has a peculiar name that is shared by precisely no-one she has ever met and that it never struck her as slightly peculiar.

However, willingly suspending disbelief, why not change it slightly to Baloo? It not only looks and sounds much nicer it is an actual name (albeit of a bear). And because, quite frankly, one Balonz is more than enough.

ROAR @ This thread GrinGrinGrin

Pico2 · 01/10/2014 19:09

Here's where it's been in the baby name charts. You do have to get 3 named in a year to feature, so there may be some Balonz flying under the radar.
