matthe1 · 02/07/2014 21:59

Looking for help with a girls name. I've got a pretty common last name so definitiely looking for something a little less common in the first. We are avid travelers so drawn a bit towards geographic based names (but not exclusively).

Intersted in getting feedback on our current short-list..

Berlin Matthews
Emery Matthews
Alexandra Matthews
Brooklyn Matthews
Vienna Matthews
Leah Matthews
London Matthews
Aria Matthews
Xianne Matthews
Alisa Matthews

Vienna or Alisa for me. What about Avery or Ainsley instead or Emery?(Emery sounds like a boys name to me)

RabbitSaysWoof · 13/07/2014 20:27

Emery

Theonlyoneiknow · 13/07/2014 17:58

Love Aria, was on my shortlist.

Also Skye which was suggested above.

Alexandra30 · 13/07/2014 17:23

Vienna. I know one - it's a pretty name that everyone knows how to pronounce - and it's definitely a girl.

SideOfFoot · 03/07/2014 21:45

Leah and Alexandra are really nice. Emery sounds like something you'd use to file your nail. Brooklyn is fine but you're naming a girl and the most well known Brooklyn is Brooklyn Beckham who is a boy so I think your Brooklyn might be perceived as a boy.

burgatroyd · 03/07/2014 21:12

Also other travel/journey inspired names:
Hermione - messenger
Gaia - earth
Rosenda - famed path
Beatrix - voyager
Odessa
Journey
Birdie

burgatroyd · 03/07/2014 18:36

Sidney, Adelaide, Tzaneen, Milan?

Belinda, gedit?

Xianne sounds nice but it doesn't scan. You could use true phonetics for ease. Plenty of chinese peeps do that. How about Ocean, Blossom, Jade, Queenie, good English/Chinese names?

Or Bo which means precious?
Or Meileen, which is close to Mui lien, which means beautiful lotus?

Bowlersarm · 03/07/2014 18:29

Vienna!

Really lovely.

Not Berlin and absolutely not London.

BreeVDKamp · 03/07/2014 18:25

Berlin is a bit clunky on the page. Vienna v pretty.

BreeVDKamp · 03/07/2014 18:25

Drake and Berlin sounds brilliant. But as they are their own people I'd still go with Vienna as I think it's nicer than Berlin.

beccajoh · 03/07/2014 18:09

I like Aria. I think of 'wall' when I read Berlin.

Alexa
Alexia
Sienna

matthe1 · 03/07/2014 18:08

Btw, going to be a sibling to "Drake". Anybody have thoughts on which of these sounds best as a sibling name?

Drake and Vienna
Drake and Aria
Drake and Berlin
..etc

Really helpful feedback, thanks everybody!

My wife really loves Vienna and Berlin. I like them both quite a bit as well, but not quite to the point yet i consider either slam dunks. Good thing we still have another four months!

Sorry should say not partial to any of them ....

Aria the nicest ....

BreeVDKamp · 03/07/2014 17:26

Vienna is awesome! Do it.

Only1scoop · 03/07/2014 17:26

No partial op....

My friend has a Vienna....where said child was conceived....

Also Rigsbys cat in rising damp....showing my years Confused

neverenoughwine · 03/07/2014 17:24

India or Indie Matthews

Xanthe Matthews (or Xanthia)

Zara Matthews (I knew of one years ago she was utterly unique and cool!)

BlueChampagne · 03/07/2014 15:26

I'd go with Xianne given the connection - most people will only need to be told how to pronounce it once, and with so many spelling variants around for many names, I'm sure most people end up spelling them anyway.

Otherwise I would suggest Vashti.

Gingerjv · 03/07/2014 15:24

Vienna Matthews!!!Sounds amazing to me!!;-)

manicinsomniac · 03/07/2014 11:50

Berlin Matthews - Not sure about this. I think I'd assume it was a boy.
Emery Matthews - Pretty, Really like it.
Alexandra Matthews - Love it
Brooklyn Matthews - Not keen at all
Vienna Matthews - Very pretty
Leah Matthews - Not keen
London Matthews - Quite like this
Aria Matthews - Love it
Xianne Matthews - I liked it when I thought it was Zee-anne. Not keen on Shee-ann
Alisa Matthews - Again, I liked it as Al-issa but not really as Al-eesa

I think I would choose Aria, Vienna or Alexandra. Or Emery. Oooh don't know - nice list!

Have you considered:
Briar, Brodie, Bronte, Ember, Ebony, Emerson, Echo, Eden, Alessandra, Alexis, Brooke, Valentina, Lyra, Luna, Lois, Larissa, Leona, Ayla, Arwen, Xenia, Xanthe, Alyssa.

Aprilray · 03/07/2014 10:47

I love Vienna! Want this on my list but DH said no.

Castlelough · 03/07/2014 08:41

What about Verona?
A girl at school with me was called Verona - it was so unusual and lovely on her!

MrsBungle · 03/07/2014 07:19

Aria is my favourite.

BlueStarsAtNight · 03/07/2014 07:16

Aria is my favourite, I also quite like Emery. Maybe have Xianne as a middle name?

Poussay · 03/07/2014 01:13

Alexandra

Not keen on your geographical ones but for other place names what about India, savannah, Georgia, Sofia, Florence, Skye ?
