Should I deliberately choose a 'good boy' name? Suggestions please

I think I may have inadvertently chosen a slightly naughty/mischievous (possibly neutral) but definitely not a 'good boy' name for my ds1.

Ds2 is due soon and I have selected a similar name (don't want to share the names though)

However I was thinking of changing the chosen name for something that is definitely known as a 'good boy' name. I hope that ds2 is better behaved and an easier, more compliant child all round :)

And I was after some suggestions to see what your opinions are and if I like any of them.

Think the idea that a child's personality is shaped by their name is very wishful thinking.

Surely you know it's just pot luck?

I know some posters on here have some good ideas about how names can bring to mind different attributes and personalities.

That is why I'm asking.

If you can't think of any that is fine but I'm after ideas and suggestions from people who do have opinions.

I think that children can be slightly judged by their names
Actually I think people are judged all the time over everything and a name is only part of it

I think the world might be more kind initially to an Edward or Harry than a Kai or Jayden.

Hmm well no, you can't expect a child's name to shape their personality. BUT I expect those on here that may have implied as such actually mean that a family who are intelligent, well mannered and kind etc etc are more likely, perhaps to chose the name James over Kai. People will say 'that's stupid. People shouldn't judge on names' or 'that's not true because I know a Kai who has just gone to Cambridge and won a Nobel prize for xy' but anyone who says that the above isn't largely true, is hugely naive.

James, William & George are good boy names.

Christopher, Luke, John, Michael, David, Mark, Charles...

Classic - and strangely most of the ones that pipped unmediately into my head also seem to be biblical.

The other link had names like Alice and Zoe on it as bad girl names...Shurley not enough of them to make the list and Shurley naice girls names ??

burgatroyd: in haste I misread your post first time and thought you were recommending Colin. Which is an underused name in UK (quite popular in France). You could spearhead an impeccably behaved revival?

I have what would normally be considered to be a "good girl" name. But, I have never met a nice person with my name. At dc's primary school where they call the teachers Miss Firstname, the teacher who shares my name is universally considered by the children to be really really horrid.

This is so subjective really, isn't it?

I see James has been mentioned twice as a "good boy"'s name but when I worked as a teacher in a rural primary school, the three boys with the most behaviour issues were all called James.

DS is Daniel which is supposed to be a naughty name.
other naughties, according to others, Cameron, Kieron, Adam.
Ians were always horrors when I was young. The adult Ians I know are fine, though.

I guess safe choices would be ones I hear as limp-wristed.

I have always found William's and Charlie's to be "naughty?!"

The "good" boy in my son's class is called Tiger....so not sure this theory works.

I named my daughter a pretty flower name and she is a complete tom-boy....??!!!

Of course names don't make people . Parents do. And perhaps parents who like certain names have a certain parenting style? In other words, choose a name you love and bring up your kids to behaveSmile.

My DS has a name which DH & I chose because we liked it and thought it was fairly classic but unusual. The feedback on it has mostly been "old-fashioned" and occasionally "posh" but a teacher friend said all the boys she'd known with that name were the naughty ones and someone on here said all the ones she'd met were bastards (as adults).

If you like the name it doesn't matter - there will always be dissenting voices, someone will always known a school bully with that name. All you can do is make sure your child is the exception!

Freddie is a naughty boys name.So is Riley.Charlie too.

I have a George and hes a monkey,but George is so popular that i, sure there are really good boys called it too.

Well, on the basis that Dennis is menacing and Henry is horrid, perhaps you'd find Peter perfect?
