Your thoughts please or I'll have to flip a coin!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Neither... Poor child

TaurielTest · 19/05/2014 10:51

I prefer Magnus.

Are you aware that - because of how -gn- was pronounced in Latin - the first syllable rhymes with "hang" rather than "hag" in Scandinavian languages? (Or actually more like "how", in the case of Danish.)

Not that you're likely to use anything other than the anglicized version - but I remember wanting to make sure I liked all the different ways children's names might be pronounced.

squoosh · 19/05/2014 10:37

Rex is definitely a marmite name, no one ever says 'Rex is okay', it's always love or hate.........or dog.

Don't let that put you off though OP if you love it. Everyone can spell it, everyone can pronounce it, it's not too common, it's also uber cool.

sonlypuppyfat · 19/05/2014 10:35

Fair enough my apologies.

VeryPunny · 19/05/2014 10:27

Rex is a dog's name. Magnus if you must.

Onefortheteam · 19/05/2014 10:26

Well to be honest sonlypuppyfat- what I've actually asked is not for your general opinion but which you prefer out of the two. If people like neither then I don't expect them to waste their time commenting and I'm definitely not on here for anyone's comedy value. That said, I can handle any sort of comments without taking it personally as I have a sense of humour and more importantly, I LOVE both names and stand by them (just can't decide between them!) I don't think anyone's being rude.....just a little narrow minded perhaps. I'm someone that's kindly asked for advice in deciding between 2 names so I see no reason why anyone has to be slightly spiteful. That, to me, is not giving an opinion of anything but rather giving me an opinion of them.

We are not rude we've been asked our opinion.

StupidFlanders · 19/05/2014 07:44

I have a Rex and considered Magnus!

Wow some people are rude!

skinmysunshine · 19/05/2014 07:13

Rex then Magnus but like both

Saraswati · 19/05/2014 07:05

Good choice! My boys name is actually Magnus Rex (I love roman history obviously) but will be making sure it's shortened to Gus. I love strong names, can't stand all the archie, Alfie type names around now. They are cute for a kid but not for a grown man.

Ignore the dog comments, I've met more dogs called max or Arthur (common names) and have never met a Rex. If you have a short surname go with magnus or if you have a long surname go with Rex!

TheNumberfaker · 18/05/2014 23:24

Rex is a dog's name, or a suffix for a male monarch.

Magnus is great!

HRHQueenMe · 18/05/2014 23:19

Magnus! Is a fantabulous name! (I've got one and his name is perfect!)

I don't get the dog name criticism either. Two of my DC are actually named after pets. One a dog and one a cat.

Onefortheteam · 18/05/2014 21:12

I really have heard it all before with the dog name thing but I just don't get it. If I said I liked Thomas, no one would say, that's a train's name. I don't say to Jack's parents, oh, as in the Ripper?! Oddly enough, the more people say it's a dogs name, the more I think it must be a good strong name then. Open to everyone's opinion though so keep them coming please!

Rex. Such a fabulous name

Mycathasflees · 18/05/2014 19:50

Rex rhymes with

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/05/2014 19:47

I have never met or heard of a dog being called Rex in my lifetime.

Most common dog names I've heard are Toby/Barney and Milly/Poppy.

Are they now not people names?

squoosh · 18/05/2014 19:43

Rex is an amazing name.

Clarabum · 18/05/2014 19:36

I like both but if I HAD to pick I'd chose Magnus. I also like Manus.

Viviennemary · 18/05/2014 19:32

Don't like either of them. Sorry. Rex is simply horrendous. It's a dogs name.

Angelto5 · 18/05/2014 19:28

love the name rex
makes me think of the great actor rex harrison
i love him in my fair lady

squoosh · 18/05/2014 19:21

I love both but Rex edges it for me.

Dogs these days are more likely to be called Max or Charlie.

DogCalledRudis · 18/05/2014 14:54
