sibling name rivalry

We really preferred our chosen girls name over our boys name (fortunately we had a DD!). We'd still use the same boys name if DC2 is a boy, but I can't imagine what we'd choose for another girl as we love DD1's name so much!

I have a very very unusual name (never met another, only heard of one or two) my middle sister has a relatively unusual name (but quite common for Catholics) and my big sister has a name that my mother said wasn't common when she was born but was very popular by the time I was born (it's a classic). My brother's name is fairly unusual too, although quite popular now.

I don't recall really thinking about the differences, but then I've always loved my name. My middle sister does have a bit of a shocker as one of her middle names, so I'm glad I don't have that one!

I'm happy with both my children's names, and so are they (phew) but we did spend virtually the whole of my second pregnancy trying to think of another boys name we liked (and then we had dd!)

I was very envious of my brother's name when I was growing up, his name is the name of a tree and fairly unusual but nice. I was given the name which was most popular the year I was born.

My children have unusual names as I so wanted an unusual name as a child. I hope my dc don't wish they were called oliver and sophia when they grow up! At least they both will have unusual names so they won't feel envious of each other.

i insisted that everyone call me cherryblossom for an entire summer when I was about 6 as I wanted a tree name too.

I know an eirlys and jane. Welsh mum/English dad. And an imran and aiofe. Irish mum/Indian dad. "You name the first and i'll name the second"??

I have a typical 70s name (along the lines of Kimberley/Nicola), DSISes both have Timeless Classics. They all work together though.

DS1 and DS2 both have legit but rarely used names - both outside the top 500. They work well together. I'm not yet completely sold on DS2's (he is 4 newborn) but DH and I went through every single name list and it was the only one we agreed on. It's a great name. When I asked my MIL what she thought of it, she said 'I'm getting used to it'

DS1's name is also divisive - in fact, a lot of people hate it. There was a thread on here recently in which 90% of posters said 'Don't call your baby that!' It's an amazing name with great heritage, family relevance and it suits him to the ground. But I did have a wobble at first because of people's reactions.

I love cherryblossom ikea. Similarly I wanted to be called Evangeline when I was a teenager. It was going to be my onscreen name (goes and checks phone to see if Hollywood have called yet)

My sister has a great name with a great nn.... Mine is really dull. Hers has an interesting meaning, mine means nothing!!!

Have 2 dds, who both have pretty and meaningful names like my sis! But one was my perfect name and the other was picked by dh... It's not particularly me in the way dd1's is but I love it. She has said she doesn't like it though!!

NO i dont have sibling envy but then our parents picked AWFUL names for all 3 of us and none of us like any of our names.. I did like the reason for my mn though (I was named after an aunt who died) but really no one wants to be named the same as Hamlets mother even for mn

I'm the youngest of 6. We all had names that were very popular for the decade we were born in - think Brenda, Tracie, etc. I got tired of being one of 4 or 5 with the same name in every class and changed my name by deed poll when I was 16. Now I have the best name!
