Posh. A bit overdone. Nice though.

BikeRunSki · 30/09/2012 09:32

Only if you have connections with the country.

baskingseals · 30/09/2012 10:07

Salbertina · 30/09/2012 10:07

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 30/09/2012 16:01

No one ^from^ India actually names their kids that though fwiw.

CityDweller · 30/09/2012 16:59

Love it.

justhayley · 30/09/2012 17:15

I thinks it's lovely

DawnOfTheDee · 30/09/2012 17:17

It's ok but to me it really dates to being born in the 90's.

NellyJob · 30/09/2012 17:17

what about 'Pakistan'?

Frontpaw · 30/09/2012 17:21

My Indian friend was staring at a shop called India Rose and eventually said 'what the hell is that?' When I told her that India is sometimes used as a girls name she almost peed herself laughing.

I'm not sure about it myself.

effingwotsits · 30/09/2012 17:22

I really like it. I like indie too.

EdMcDunnough · 30/09/2012 17:23

It's a very pretty name in its own right but I'm not sure about its provenance...it seemed to come out of nowhere as a 'cool' name because people had once visited the country or something. Or liked to pretend they had. So I used to think it was a bit pretentious.

But I think it's a nice name if you aren't trying to be cool.

laura0007 · 30/09/2012 17:26

zombies I know an Indian couple who's dd2 is called India!

thefirstmrsrochester · 30/09/2012 17:30

Love it ......my dd is called India.

scottishmummy · 30/09/2012 17:43

evocative of quinoa munching mc parents
is really cliched usually said in an affected en-dee-aahhh way
seeing we are doing place names...cambuslang,armadale,lesmahagow,drymen?

Uppercut · 30/09/2012 17:50

The same people cooing over how nice a name 'India' is are probably the same kind of people who'd sneer at 'Chardonnay' or 'Mercedes'.

The irony is that one (middle) class of tacky is no better than another.

TidyGOLDDancer · 30/09/2012 17:57

I do quite like it, but it's become sort of adopted into the trendy catagory now which puts me off.

Kelerina · 30/09/2012 18:54

It's funny, people seem to think of it as a posh name but to my ear it's really chavvy!!! No idea why though

PandaWatch · 30/09/2012 18:59

India is hardly a new name! There's an India in Gone With The Wind. It's lovely OP.

PandaWatch · 30/09/2012 19:02

Oh and comparing Mercedes (remember it was a girl's name waaaaay before the car...) to chardonnay is just silly imo.

herhonesty · 30/09/2012 19:10

Well I am quite partial to quinoa. Prefer couscous though.

Uppercut · 30/09/2012 19:28

I'm sure the dusty history behind the name is absolutely fascinating, but the current reality is that 'Mercedes' is overwhelmingly associated with a car brand.
