People have suggested I call my baby India as The baby spent the first 2 months of his/her existence in India - I was travelling there when I found out I was pregnant. Er, definitely not!

This Yoga teacher in goa adopted a puppy and called her India and got banned from a few of the smarter hotels as they said she was disrespecting India ( the country not the dog!)

For a human, India knight puts me off too I think.

I know several who are distinctly un-posh. If it once was aristocratic it certainly isn't anymore.

I went to school with one who was lovely but occasionally got curry jokes (did not help when she went out with a boy called Josh -"going for a Rogn Josh at the Indian?"- kids are so witty) but I think it's more common now and people's sense of humou will have moved on.

We very nearly named DD India because we loved it so much, but comments like some of those appearing on this thread put us off and we went with something else.

If you love it, that's all that matters. Just think about how it will be shortened/nicknamed - seems to me all kids end up with some kind of one syllable version of their name!

It's pretty but I think will date with her.

I think it's ridiculous to suggest you can/should only name her this if you've been there or had a connection with the country.

I didn't realise children's names were a way of identify people's holidays destinations or I would have called mine Corfu and Marjorca.

I like it but wouldn't use it as a very good friend went out with an India. Another mutual friend then kept referring to him as Mountbatten ('entering India' etc etc.)
