Annoyed!!

I've recently made friends with someone. She was pregnant. I've given her lots of baby things, clothes, toys, equipment etc etc. chatted a lot. She has just given birth..... And she has called her son my sons name! A rather uncommon name with our unique spelling. I'm really quite pissed off. My partner can't understand why! Am I being unreasonable?......

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh a friend of mine is set to call her about to be born baby Ariadne! I really like it tho she's getting Hmm this face a lot sadly.

Always a mistake to tell people in advance. I have never met an Ariadne, small or big, so it is unusual. Same goes for Cormac, tho I would spell it that way tbh. Cormac McCarthy? Author?

alexpolismum · 09/04/2012 19:19

Go on, go on, call a future dd Ariadne! You know you want to!

SauvignonBlanche · 09/04/2012 19:19

Cormac isn't exactly unusual, I know two.

bagelmonkey · 09/04/2012 19:18

I've met quite a few adult Cormacs.

alexpolismum · 09/04/2012 19:18

You should be pleased she shares your exquisite taste or is it just me that feels that way about my dd's name

alexpolismum · 09/04/2012 19:17

I've never seen it spelt Cormack before, I thought Cormac was the normal spelling. It was spelt that way in the Irish history book I seem to remember doing.

Machasma · 09/04/2012 19:16

That's a lovely name Smile

My dd's name is Ariadne.

The most beautiful name in the world. So there.

Machasma · 09/04/2012 19:14

Also have a Hermione in the family so cheers jkrowling! we have no chance Smile

bookbird · 09/04/2012 19:12

Cormac is a lovely name, but it's also the name of one of JK Rowlings characters, so you're likely to come across more than one I'm afraid.

Machasma · 09/04/2012 19:05

Haha Geeorge ;-). Well I've concluded they won't be in the same class, we aren't best friends, and she lives in the next town. So maybe I should just suck it up. Alright alright. But worried now it will be super common and il look a right div! Or it will be hated and everyone will say why would anyone use it!?..... It's Cormac. I've mostly seen it spelt cormack

Since having dd1 I have met 3 other children with her name. I hadn't heard it before then

DessieLou · 09/04/2012 19:03

Care to share then alexpolismum?! Wink

alexpolismum · 09/04/2012 19:00

I am always pleased on the rare occasions I meet another child with the same name as my dd. It's such a beautiful name, there really ought to be more of them.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 09/04/2012 18:48

Is it Geeorge?

DizzyKipper · 09/04/2012 18:47

I'm also curious to know the name, and wondering like nooka whether perhaps your name and chosen spelling wasn't quite as unique as you thought? (saying that I still don't think I'd give my child the same name as a friend's child anyway, unless I'd always really wanted that name way before the friend...)

BBQJuly · 09/04/2012 18:46

YABU

MirandaGoshawk · 09/04/2012 18:45

From the OP I thought it was 'Annoyed'.

Now that would be unusual and not entirely unreasonable given post-delivery hormones

nooka · 09/04/2012 18:42

We used to have a childminder who had given her three children what she thought were unique names. I have subsequently met a number of children with the same names (spelled the same 'unusual' way too). OP are you really sure that your son's name is really that unusual?

Gumby · 09/04/2012 18:34

You'll just have to stop being friends so your babies never cross paths Wink

Or will they be in same class at school?

lisad123 · 09/04/2012 18:31

Just tell us!!!

Machasma · 09/04/2012 18:30

Sorry not Irvin Wink but along the same lines of uncommoness

OP posts:
ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 09/04/2012 18:29

Irvin is a very cool name by the way.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 09/04/2012 18:28

If I miswrite 'it on' my phone doesn't change it to Irvin. Just saying like... Irvin might be a name the OP uses a lot... Grin

Machasma · 09/04/2012 18:24

Wink no although if he was you would all agree it's unique and out of order to steal! Smile
