Annoyed!!

I've recently made friends with someone. She was pregnant. I've given her lots of baby things, clothes, toys, equipment etc etc. chatted a lot. She has just given birth..... And she has called her son my sons name! A rather uncommon name with our unique spelling. I'm really quite pissed off. My partner can't understand why! Am I being unreasonable?......

Well the conventional MN wisdom is that YABU and you don't own a name.

Which is technically correct.

I would still be annoyed though.

Well my ds is the only one I've ever known with this name. My partner says it shows good taste and is a compliment.... Maybe but I'm rather bitter about it!!!

I feel a bit miffed when I hear of another child with DS's name and it's not that unusual (not pissed off, just makes me wonder if we should have chosen a more unusual name) I'd be annoyed... How did she even tell you? I'm guessing not in person!

It's relevant though. If the name is James then it's such a common name you can't really be mad at someone for copying you. If your DS's name is Gandalf-Pixie-Poo then it's a slightly different situation.

I'd be pissed off, but YABU. Unless you've done a Beyonce/Jay-Z & trademarked his name & the spelling then anyone is free to use it. Besides, imitation is the highest form of flattery!

We definitely need to know the name. You will be bombarded until we know. Or worse people will start guessing & you'll forever be the MN-er with Jaxxon-Käie-Bluu (insert suitably unusual & uniquely spelled name here)

If I miswrite 'it on' my phone doesn't change it to Irvin. Just saying like... Irvin might be a name the OP uses a lot... Grin

We used to have a childminder who had given her three children what she thought were unique names. I have subsequently met a number of children with the same names (spelled the same 'unusual' way too). OP are you really sure that your son's name is really that unusual?
