I have read quite a bit of Russian literature so was thinking 'headstrong beauty in tumultuous times'. But is everyone else thinking 'aged barmaid'?!?

Verity was the name of the sister of a horrid boyfriend I had... the association is enough to put me off, I think, though I do quite like it. Also Vita, but then there is the Rye... thing.

I really really think Doris should be popular. Why isn't it?!?

Has the current generation of kids ever heard of Vera Duckworth (I hadn't heard of her and had to google her )?

I don't personally like it. It's one of those names where I think "How on Earth was that name ever popular?" Other names that make me think that are Audrey, Beatrice and Mavis.

However, not everyone thinks like I do. You and your dp are the only ones that count....If you like it, go for it! x

I could grow to like Vera, I think. Prefer Vita short for Victoria though! And Rita. Rita is brilliant

Yes, currently still associated with old ladies, but due for a revival imo.

I like it very much - feminine, elegant, classic and underused these days. Works beautifully in most other languages too.
