I have read quite a bit of Russian literature so was thinking 'headstrong beauty in tumultuous times'. But is everyone else thinking 'aged barmaid'?!?

Not the best old lady name IMO.

It sounds quite harsh.

rachel234 · 09/02/2012 10:40

I like it very much - feminine, elegant, classic and underused these days. Works beautifully in most other languages too.

bigbluebump · 09/02/2012 10:49

Yes, currently still associated with old ladies, but due for a revival imo.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 09/02/2012 10:52

Quite nice, is it a name on its own or short for Veronica? basing that solely on a Corrie character.

Montsti · 09/02/2012 12:04

Probably due for a revival, but not to my taste at all...

minipie · 09/02/2012 12:28

I thought "Duckworth" I'm afraid. How about Verity?

birdofthenorth · 09/02/2012 12:46

I could grow to like Vera, I think. Prefer Vita short for Victoria though! And Rita. Rita is brilliant Smile

crocodilesmiles · 09/02/2012 13:29

I don't personally like it. It's one of those names where I think "How on Earth was that name ever popular?" Other names that make me think that are Audrey, Beatrice and Mavis.

However, not everyone thinks like I do. You and your dp are the only ones that count....If you like it, go for it! x

bigbluebump · 09/02/2012 13:31

Has the current generation of kids ever heard of Vera Duckworth (I hadn't heard of her and had to google her Blush)?

Flowerface · 09/02/2012 14:35

Verity was the name of the sister of a horrid boyfriend I had... the association is enough to put me off, I think, though I do quite like it. Also Vita, but then there is the Rye... thing.

I really really think Doris should be popular. Why isn't it?!?
