baby names. will it still mean the same if i slightly change spelling

hi, i have found a name i really like but want to change the spelling slightly, just one letter. so people will spell it properly. i cant seem to find it spelt the way i want to on name sites. so just wondering if it will mean the same

i'd have thought so the name Katherine and all its derivatives reguardless of spelling still means pure

the name is tarin but i want to spell it taryn, so people , ie, dh bloody family, dont pronounce the 'a' wrong. i have a dd and they cant pronounce her name right and it really annoys me. taryn is for a boy if that is what i have. it means rocky hill and seen as i live in the hills of scotland thought it would be nice

I went to school with a girl called Taryn, spelled just that way. Only she pronounced it TA-rin, with the emphasis on the TA. I would think it would still mean the same thing, and really it's what it means to you that counts.

If you are really bothered about people pronouncing it wrong choose antoher name. My dt1 is called ravi, which we thought was easy but nearly every white person gets it wrong. It doesn't bother me too much, but it drives my dp nuts. It's the same with his name, rishi, he gets called everythign from REEshi to Rasher!

I honestly don't see why you think changing the i to a y would influence the pronounciation or the spelling. I have never seen this word before (is it really a name or are you just using at as a name?) and I would pronounce Taryn as 'Tarrin' and if I heard someone calling their child Tar-in I wouldn't ever guess that it was supposed to have a y in it.

Tbh I think the whole idea that names mean something is pretty bogus, unless it is a name which is actually also another word, such a Felicity or Grace or Patience, and even then the meaning is largely irrelevant IMO.

I'd automatically pronounce it Tarrin too, regardless of whether it's a Y or an I. unless, of course, I'd been told it was tar-in!

me too - tbh think I'd go for something more straightforward as first name and save it for middle one , if mispronunciation will bug you that much.

Yup, I'd pronounce it Tarrin as well, like Karen or Karyn or Karin. (Or indeed Karrin). How about Tahrin?

I would also pronouce it Tarrin - I have some distant girl cousin called Taryn (spelt that way) and I always thought of Taryn as purely a girls name - I haven't ever heard of a Tar-in. Sorry.

I really like Taryn and you can spell it anyway you like.
I have a Tegan which should be spelt Teagan and a Sidney which people keep spelling Sydney.

As the mother of a dd with a name which no one can seem to pronouce (despite the fact that it is spelt very simply) I would say that spelling it with an 'i' or a 'y' wont make any difference. If you like the name and it seems appropriate, just go for it and live with the mis-pronounciations. If you can't live with them then change the name. I say this cause at times I really regret giving dd her name cause I know I've sentenced her to a life time of 'what? how's that spelt?'. Despite that, I still love the name (and yours).

i like esmae an have had none stop battering for changing the spelling as it should be esme but to me thats es-me not es -may an we like may not me, so i know how your feeling , just do what you feel is right its your baby not ours! x

I have Taryn on my list for a girl spelt that < < way. I would pronounce it TA-Ryn.
