Last year's statistics have just been released http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=184 online

Oliver and Olivia still top names.

I'm about to scour the rest of the list for inspiration and to check the names I've chosen aren't too popular

What do we think?

It is addictive reading is it not ladies?! Grin

The amount of 'creatively' spelt names is infuriating ...or is that just me?!!!

bilblio · 28/07/2011 21:42

I wonder if as a registrar you could ever point out to people that it may be spelt wrong?

I've an unusual name, (even more unusual than Pheobe) people spell it wrong all the time and I've had the odd person insist that it's spelt differently. I generally point them towards a dictionary seeing as it's in any half decent one.

stardustn · 28/07/2011 21:42

VivianDarkbloom I know, I couldn't believe how high up it was for a misspelling Shock

KenDoddsDadsDog · 28/07/2011 21:41

Orla is up to 175. Wasn't in top 500 when we named DD! Must have spread out of the Irish community.

My SIL will be very put out that there are over 500 girls out there with her daughters very unusual name Grin.

MelinaM · 28/07/2011 21:33

I think it more likely to be a misspelling! ...unfortunately!

stardustn · 28/07/2011 21:30

41 sets of parents used Pheobe Shock which made me think it might be pronounced differently or be a different name than a misspelling of Phoebe

Lainey1981 · 28/07/2011 21:30

Joes-v?
Am lurking hoping no one mocks my ds's name considering only 5 of them registered last year, though the shortened version is at 132

I'm amazed Sydney is no.289 for girls but only no.1055 for boys- has that become the generally accepted girls' spelling? Both my grandad and great grandad were called Sydney spelt like that :o

emmanumber3 · 28/07/2011 21:10

pingu - ahh, the irony Grin.

vividgingerchilli · 28/07/2011 21:10

Veronique - only 3 of them, I'm surprised there aren't more; rather more fortunate than the 3 girls called Velvet- their parents obviously did not look down the toilet roll aisle in the supermarket and reconsider.
Vanisha - oh dear...
and who would call a girl Tuba?
3 Toyah Wilcox fans out there....
and Rogue???? Oh dear, pity them when they go to school!
my "future daughter's name" of Meredith is very low down, I always loved that name but never used it; no idea why as I still love it.

emmanumber3 · 28/07/2011 21:08

I feel sorry for the 37 sets of parents who are regretting choosing a lovely, unique, name like Harper for their DD Hmm.

catinboots · 28/07/2011 21:04

11 baby Daves. 11 baby Daves.

Why do I not know one of these babies??

vividgingerchilli · 28/07/2011 21:01

Elephantsandmias - it'll be fine with 3 Messiahs as long as they don't all come at once.
Grin

Raahh · 28/07/2011 20:53

Just read that DD2's name (400 and something last year), is destined to be HUGE this year.

Can you guess what it is?

Philippa, nn Pippa Sad

Curse you, Middleton!!!Grin

(I don't actually care about how popular a name is- DD1s nn is very popular, I just don't want people thinking La Derriere was the inspiration! Didn't even know who she was last year when we picked the name!)

Portofino · 28/07/2011 20:51

I love Pebbles! Are there any Bam-Bams? Grin I have an Isabella (aged 7). Had no clue where this name was back in 2004 but there must be lots now.

Actually I always wanted an Isobel - after one of the twins in Flambards Blush but dh has a family tradition of girls names ending in A. When I woke up after my CS he said " We have a beautiful dd Isabella" I couldn't have cared less if she was called Kevin at that point.

Other names on our list were Chiara, Clara (dd's middle name), Ischia ( in the Beckham stylee Wink) and Teadora

MelinaM · 28/07/2011 20:49

I agree, this has certainly livened up my Thursday evening!!! Grin
