Please rate my name ideas

Hi there

Here are my initial thoughts for names for boys and girls, please let me know what you think! I'm less than 2 months PG so still plenty of time to think about it.

Isaac
Joseph
Innes
Thomas
Marley
Austin
Jesse

Lily
Isis
Lydia
Jessie
Alice
Agnes
Katherine
Madeleine
Maria

For the girls' names (for both actually) I would be really keen for a nature-inspired name (hence Lily, though I know it is very very popular) but can't think of many good ones. I like Rowan, but am looking for a first name that will go with the middle name Elliot. Elliot will be the middle name for either a girl or a boy.

Love Joseph ( may be slightly biased on that though!)

Absolutely love Katherine, very classy versatile name. Love nickname Kate.

Zider the poor lad. The only Jesse I know is about 60 and built like Giant Haystacks. Doesn't tend to get many jokes about his name strangely.

I met an 18yo Jesse recently, and while I was there three separate people made jokes about 'Jessica' - it annoyed me after 10 minutes, let alone 18 years!

Isaac- Love, goes well with Elliot
Joseph- Love also goes well with Elliot
Innes- Quite unusual but still nice and goes with Elliot
Thomas- Nice but a bit boring IMO, goes well with Elliot
Marley- Just reminds me of the dog and with Elliot just sounds too surnamey
Austin- Too American (unless you are) and the sam surnamey issue as Marley
Jesse- Love, goes well with Elliot

Lily- Like, not sure if it goes with Elliot though
Isis- A bit too unusual perhaps, tricky to pronounce/spell
Lydia- Love, goes with Elliot
Jessie- Love but perhaps too masculine with Elliot
Alice- Love
Agnes- Like but I think sounds too harsh with Elliot
Katherine- Love
Madeleine- Not keen
Maria- Love, goes well with Elliot

I like the name Isis but it's like Isla, soon going to be too popular. Although what's wrong with that?

Naw, I change my mind, I like Isis best from your girl's list!

SeeyouontheothersideRay- your Elliot explanation makes sense, now (i forget it is also a surname, as to me it is one of the less 'surnamey' firstnames, if that makes any sense at all!).

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! Elliot is my middle name and a family surname for me, so our idea with that is for the baby (and prob any future babies) to have my middle name and my OH's surname, as they go together well. I love Forrest but OH's surname begins with F so might be a bit of a mouthful.

Also like Rowan, though it would result in initials REF.
So few takers for Isis! I guess it is a bit pretentious but I like its power! Not sure how I would feel about being called it though, so I suppose that should rule it out.
So far I'm leaning towards Alice, Lydia, Isaac and Joseph.

Boy nature names that I like - Rowan (dd2 would have been this if ds), Dale

I love Isaac- was the only name DH and I could agree on for a boy (but dc3 is a girl)- nick name Ike.
Also LOVE Lydia- but with our surname was a bit show girl ( think Lydia La Rue, but not that).

Alice and Joseph are also great.

BUT Elliot (imo)is a BOYS name...and ds's name. Great choice, by the way!

Innes - and Gunn, they make beer, really dont!

Austin - Original yet Old fashioned, good name

Isis - Gorgeous, but better as a middle name

Lydia - Just lovely

Alice - Wonderful!

Agnes - Certainly not

Madeleine - The best, I would suggest Madeleine Isis Lydia ......

I like the others, but they dont stand out

I like Isaac, Joseph, Thomas and Jesse.

Innes and Marley are too feminine IMO.

Austin is Ok.

I like Lily, Lydia, Alice, Jessie, Alice, Katherine, Agnes.

I dont really like Madeline as I find it overused and also the fact that most people, regardless of spelling, say Mad-uh-lyn. I preferred the different spellings and other pronouciations that used to exist before it before very popular. The other versions that rhyme with rain and nine.

I dont really like Isis or Maria.

Other nature names: Iris, Willow, Marina??

Cool thanks falling, will check it out. "Lid ae a" sounds like exactly the kind of pun my step-dad used to make, he had a really bad joke about shoes made in Taiwan (one lace up, one buckled)!

He just says it is the same as "Lid ae a" i.e. Lid of a... then says words like jamjar, teapot. This would not occur to anyone in NZ. Probably not that many people in Scotland, but I can't get it out of my mind Confused DP not that keen anyway and we have another girl's name we like now.

No, I live in New Zealand now - would love to know what the Lydia pun was though! Thanks for the suggestions, I knew a truly awful Sandy so Alexander is out for me, but I like Andrew. I was considering Murdo as well but again it sounds a bit posh and maybe too close to Murdoch.

Do you live in Scotland? My Dad kind of ruined Lydia for me by making a weird Scottish pun out of it.
