Elias?

Could be a fun thread, answer and then add your own name for others to associate!

elias=churchy person, possibly with many wives

MuffinMouse · 06/10/2010 19:57

I hear either a liars... or alias - sorry, doesn't work for me

mathanxiety · 06/10/2010 19:52

I wouldn't consider it girly. It's a name a James Earl Jones character could have imo -- the wise outsider, definitely solidly masculine, but insightful too.

frazzle26 · 06/10/2010 19:47

Really sorry to be mean but think it sounds quite girlie. Not to my taste at all but fair play to you if you like it.

PaigeTurner · 06/10/2010 18:20

Man with long beard and sandals.

mathanxiety · 06/10/2010 18:18

(Platoon = Vietnam War film directed by Oliver Stone, a classic of the genre)

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 06/10/2010 17:46

I think of charismatic American character actors Elias Koteas and Eli Wallach.

In other words, an awesome name and definitely one for my list.

Lonnie · 06/10/2010 15:45

first "Thing" i think about is an old work mate and I'm smiling now writing this for me it is someone lovely I worked with abotu 15 years ago

frakkinnakkered · 06/10/2010 15:08

I like it.

I think the guy who talked to wolves in the Wheel of Time though! It's spelt Elyas there but same name...

Also ell - eye - us pronunciation.

bundlebelly · 06/10/2010 15:03

Nice little old man with holes in his jumper.

Starberries · 06/10/2010 14:56

Pronunciation will either be Ee-lye-us or Uh-lye-us. Sounds like it has good connotations for most (never heard of platoon so doesn't faze me in the slightest Grin)

First one I think of is Elias Canetti but I also know a four-year-old one. I think it's cool - but agree that there may be a little confusion about how to pronounce it.

loopyloops · 06/10/2010 13:17

I like it but couldn't have an Eli after a film... was it "There will be Blood?" where Eli was a religious nut.

WitchyWooWoo · 06/10/2010 13:14

elias doge? isn't that a character in HP? im probably wrong

really nice name though

comtessa · 06/10/2010 11:12

Elias - Ell-eye-ass.

The name of a seriously gorgeous ENT consultant who saw me for a hearing appointment and who, if I was in Friends or SATC, I would have totally asked out on a date. In RL, however, I merely wittered and almost swooned. Tall, dark hair, soft-but-clear voice...

As you were Blush

joydivisionovengloves · 06/10/2010 10:59

Makes me think of Platoon too

lanismum · 06/10/2010 10:15

Brings to mind a gorgeous toddler with lots of blonde hair (can you tell I have one?) Grin

mopsyflopsy · 06/10/2010 09:13

Elias is lovely!

Threelittleducks · 06/10/2010 09:07

Oooo!! Nice!
Don't usually like more unusual names, but yes!
This one is Threelittleducks approved!
Grin

He sounds like a really well-rounded, dependable guy.

Elias.

Lovely!

LaTristesse · 06/10/2010 09:05

I really like it!

There's a cool composer guy called Jonathan Elias, so I guess I would associate it with being a surname, but love it all the same!

4andnotout · 06/10/2010 08:09

I'd pronounce it El-e-as I know a couple pronounced this way and quite like the name.

I'd say it Eel-eye-us.

I think it's lovely and it's growing on me more and more.

SandStorm · 06/10/2010 07:58

Would also need to know how to pronounce it. Might get a bit boring having to explain that every time you meet someone new.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 06/10/2010 07:45

How's it pronounced in the UK? Here it's Ay-lee-ass, Ell-E-ass? It'd be a bit much too live with, I fear.

I'm assuming it's for a boy, how about Eliezer or Elijah. The nn Eli (prn. E-lye) is grand.
