Parents a bit hippie, but grounded and well read, interested in their child's individuality as opposed to sticking a label on him that says 'I fit in'. (btw, I like the name)

Quite like it but would need conformation on how to pronounce.

I friend of mine married into the name, and was pronounced Ell-eye-us. So I think of it as a surname tbh.

I was going to say Platoon as well Grin Although Elias was the saintly captain who got shot by crazy Barnes (Tom Berenger).

Elias is a great name though. I would definitely force encourage DH to consider it for another boy :)

How's it pronounced in the UK? Here it's Ay-lee-ass, Ell-E-ass? It'd be a bit much too live with, I fear.

I'm assuming it's for a boy, how about Eliezer or Elijah. The nn Eli (prn. E-lye) is grand.

I really like it!

There's a cool composer guy called Jonathan Elias, so I guess I would associate it with being a surname, but love it all the same!

The name of a seriously gorgeous ENT consultant who saw me for a hearing appointment and who, if I was in Friends or SATC, I would have totally asked out on a date. In RL, however, I merely wittered and almost swooned. Tall, dark hair, soft-but-clear voice...

I like it but couldn't have an Eli after a film... was it "There will be Blood?" where Eli was a religious nut.

First one I think of is Elias Canetti but I also know a four-year-old one. I think it's cool - but agree that there may be a little confusion about how to pronounce it.

Pronunciation will either be Ee-lye-us or Uh-lye-us. Sounds like it has good connotations for most (never heard of platoon so doesn't faze me in the slightest Grin)
