What is / could this nn be short for?

Does anyone have any ideas what Coco is or could be short for? I really like this as a name but would want to put a more formal name on the birth certificate. I have heard someone mention Cordelia before which is lovely but was wondering if there were any other possibilities.

Thanks

Consuela or Constance maybe? Sting has a daughter called CoCo I think, maybe give him a ring and ask.

withorwithoutyou · 15/09/2010 14:20

Chloe?

pinkbasket · 15/09/2010 14:22

Coco is a name in its own right, surely? Coco Chanel? And I think a pop star has a child called Coco.

seeker · 15/09/2010 14:25

Coco Chanel's real name was Gabrielle.

So basically, you could call your dd anything you like and have coco as a nickname.

WilliamItWasReallyNothing · 15/09/2010 14:25

Ooo - good suggestions, I'd never have thought of those (the names that is, not calling StingGrin)

Not sure DH will go for these though - wanted something quite girlie if possible

Coco Chanel's real name is Gabrielle.

Sting has a daughter called Coco (real name Eliot though) and so does Courtney Cox.

pinkbasket · 15/09/2010 14:26

I never knew that, seeker. You have educated me Grin.

WilliamItWasReallyNothing · 15/09/2010 14:30

Hmm, doesn't really seem to be the shortened form of anything then does it? Bum, I really like it but wanted to have something more formal on the certificate to fend of lots of scathing comments from our highly conservative parents:(

What about Constance?

WilliamItWasReallyNothing · 15/09/2010 14:49

Don't think Constance is quite what I'm looking for. I wanted something quite girlie and frillyBlush

I liked Coco too.... Cordelia, Cora, Chloe were the three I thought of.

WilliamItWasReallyNothing · 15/09/2010 15:02

I like Cora! I guess Coraline would work too. I'll have to check these out with DH later:)

We like Carrie and had said if we had a girl we'd give her Coco for short... You could call your daughter Coco as a nickname for any 'C' name?

Faaamily · 15/09/2010 15:07

I know a Coco. Her full name is Charmaine (she is French).

TotorosOcarina · 15/09/2010 15:07

Cocodomol?

TotorosOcarina · 15/09/2010 15:12

Corin?
Collette?
Coroloine?
Constance?
Cora?
Coral?
Cordelia?

I think you could use the 'co' at the front of those to go to Coco?

WilliamItWasReallyNothing · 15/09/2010 15:12

JudyPink that's true - I suggested Cecily as a first name to DH but he vetoed it, maybe he can be persuaded if we use Coco as a nn

Or, we could go with the beautiful CocodomolWink

Colleen?
Echo?

lowrib · 15/09/2010 15:45

According to www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Coco "Coco is of Old Greek origin, and it is used mainly in the Dutch, French, and Spanish languages.

Coco is a variant form of the English and French Colette."

smother · 15/09/2010 16:40

is your surname Pops?

lowrib · 15/09/2010 16:59

.. but I think anything starting Co works well. How about Corinna? I know an adult Corinna and I think it's a beautiful name.

I like Maryz suggestion too.

Greensleeves · 15/09/2010 17:01

Coralie
Cody (can be a girls' name)
Condoleeeezzzzzzza (joke)

lowrib · 15/09/2010 17:11

I know a polish girl called Coco. I don't know how you spell her name but it's said Casha.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 15/09/2010 17:17

lowrib - that'll be spelled Kasia - English version Cassia and from Kezia - meaning cinnamon bark (can you tell it was on my list once?)

Coco could be short for lots of things, I suppose. What about Corisann(e) not sure of spelling of that, though...
