Hi, I accidently let slip to my mother our baby girl name. she pulled a face that would curdle milk and said forthrightly it "didn't go" with our surname.

DH & 1 both love it and were trying to keep it under our hats for this very reason. It's not even a silly name!

What to do??

beautiful name.
i would use it myself but to close to dd s name. my sister has 5 children and learnt to say nothing as peoples reactions really annoyed her, some of her childrens names r lovely others iam not keen on, but its her child her choice, go with what u love x

I have kept my name a secret for this very reason! Its not just my mun though my Auntie keeps saying 'oh I hope its not a silly name like...' It really annoys me when people think that you want their opinion when you havent asked for it!

I think Phoebe is a lovely name and was one on my girls list! I hope your mum doesnt put you off!

we accidentally told my sister the name we'd chosen for a boy, and got the 'oh, but it's so very common! how could you? etc etc' so we told everyone we'd decided to call DS Caligula or Adolf. Oliver suddenly became an acceptable name after that. :o plus which, he is such and Oliver now, really cannot imagine what else he could have been called!

Definitely ignore this!

If you love the name, your DH loves the name and DC loves the name then there is no issue. Do what feels right for you!

Good luck with it all anyway

Liz

Thanks for all the advice ladies! Phoebe is still in the running! DH now likes Isabella Hmm as an alternative! But i'm sticking to my guns!

There will be no further mention of names outside this house!

That's a beautiful name. Defo ignore it if you love it. People turn their noses up at a name before a baby is born which generally they wouldn't dare do it when the baby was born and you announced it. The baby will become the name and I'm sure nobody will ever imagine she would have been called anything else.
