I'm quite liking Mirabelle. Amelie and Greta were both on DH's list.

I can't decide on any girl's name that I love.

My favourite are Anya and Amelie.

Both remind me of the girls in school who were confident and independent and cool but managed to be all this without being nasty to others.

I wouldn't spell it Anya, though - it's Aine (with a little accent thing above the I which is probably easier to miss out because of typing, but I would add it , because it can be used in writing and looks so much prettier)

It's my favoutire out of the list.

Anya and Áine are both spelled and pronounced differently.

They are not the same name.

nickel - actually depending on dialect, they can be pronounced the same, but that would have spoiled my Simpsons allusion
Is this Homer Nixon any relations? Unlikely sir, they spell and pronounce their names differently

But they're not the same name, they just sound similar/the same.

Áine is a name of ancient Celtic origins. Anya AFAIK is a Russian diminutive.

yes Anya is the familiar form of Anna

AFAIK a Russian women would be called Anna formally, Anya by her friends and probably Anoushka by her DH or close family.

Anya is Russian diminutive for 'Anna' or 'Anastasia'.

Love the name Anastasia, one reason why my NN is such.

Oh, actually, now I am thinking about it, the Anastasia diminutive might also be 'Nastya'. (Don;t recommend that one though!).

I only thought this because my friebd at uni was an Aine and she was convinced that Anya was just a bad spelling (probably because people would do that all the time)

and now that you say, Aine is more "onya" sometimes, isn't it? my Aine was liverpulian, so she said "ann-ya"

and now I know the origin of Anya, I'm putting that spelling into my preferred name.
