Can we talk about Laura Brand

Ineversaidthatactually · 22/10/2026 10:15

Recorded 4 days ago, a youtube video with the 2 of them sitting in dressing gowns, chatting about their week, complimenting each other on their court appearance outfits and telling each other how good they looked in court, quoting a friend who complimented them on dressing well in court, sharing a laugh together about the week they've had (in court). Laura smiles and laughs.
Something I picked up on, at 3 mins 50 secs, RB says "On Sunday blah blah blah". Laura corrects him and says "Monday". RB says "Did I say Sunday?" Laura says "You did, yeah" RB says "But didn't I say you're watching this on Sunday" Laura says "Oh, maybe you did, sorry" RB says "I'm a pro" Laura laughs and says "ok".
But he DIDN'T say "you're watching this on Sunday". He said "On Sunday" and she was right to correct him.
So here we have a recorded dialogue between the 2 of them where we see RB tell Laura that he just said something completely different to what he actually just said, and she instantly pacifies him by saying "oh maybe you did" (but he didn't) and then she quickly apologises to him and he reminds her that he's the pro. Yet he has just blatantly lied about what he said on film in front of everyone viewing it but cleverly covers his mistake up in a nanosecond and makes her believe that she made a mistake, she is wrong, and she should be reminded that he is the pro (thereby asserting his power over her). This exchange all happened so fast that I had to rewind it and watch again because I thought "Hang on a minute, you did say Sunday, you didn't say what you're telling her you said, you're lying in a split second response, and she's going along with you saying something you didn't say!".
RB covered his mistake up so fast and turned it round on his wife and made her look stupid for getting it wrong and then reminded her he's better than her ("I'm a pro" subtext "You're not"). If he can lie and cover and confuse and coerce this quickly whilst he knows he's being filmed, then no wonder he is easily lying about his crimes.
As females, can we have a discussion about Laura?
Personally, I have been upset and confused to see her walking in to court hand in hand with RB, or with his arm around her shoulders as they walk in. Her display of loyalty is huge. How can she put on such a display of belief in him when he's on trial for rape and sexual assault of 6 women?
Whilst watching this video this morning (filmed on Sunday), I felt a rising anger at her for laughing about the week in court and flattering him with compliments about his court outfits and how good he looked.
But that quickly turned to concern when I saw her accept him telling her she'd mis-quoted him when she hadn't, and then swiftly apologised to him.
So now I don't know what to think about her but I do think there needs to be a discussion on a female forum about this woman supporting her husband on trial for alleged sexual crimes against women.
Even if you can't watch the whole video, please watch the first 4 minutes:

But even this is designed to garner sympathy from the public isn't it.
A video interview of them and their baby boy.
"Oh but look at what WE have gone through with our little boy! He was only 10 weeks old and I had to drive to hospital with him! He had to have open heart surgery as a baby! Don't make it even worse for me by taking my husband away from me and putting him in jail! I won't cope on my own!".
Look, I'm sorry their child needed open heart surgery. But as Russell says in the video, he's fine now.
Her husband is still a rapist.
At the end she says "I don't want to do this (parenting) on my own so I hope the system isn't as fucked as we all think it is!" and then they both have a good old laugh together about it.
So she goes on camera to say she hopes the judicial system doesn't believe these 6 raped and abused women. Women her own husband raped and abused.
I feel really, really angry with her after watching this clip.

💯 but at least she does come across as more real than Sunday sit down!

Ignore Megyn Kelly but fast forward to 1 hour 10 and there’s a long clip of Russell and Laura - will you give you a wider and more raw perspective of what she’s dealing with and how she’s handling it.

A very different Laura to Sunday sit down.

I listened to a podcast that was discussing what she said in court. It was Russell who told her to clean up her mess and told her that there were wipes in the bathroom. She tried to clean it the best she could then pulled the covers over in an attempt to hide it. Then the driver who had taken her there appeared, told her Russell had to be somewhere and drove her to the station.
She was crying in the car, he didn't say anythjng but handed her some tissues.

I'm finding the news podcasts alot more detailed than anything that's been reported on social media/in the news. The BBC sounds one is good.

Agree with you. Some of the posts on here, stating what was said by victims, are not what was said in court, so are incorrect.

I was worried about how the jury would unpick it . It wouldn’t matter if she smeared it everywhere . I was just worried the would say. It not possible to clean up blood and poo grok bed sheets with wipes. I was worrying for her mostly, I just hoped she’d made it clear that she had tried but couldn’t do it which I’ve not found out she had. It’s not really about th cleaning but consistency of story as I don’t want her to be accused.

ive been raped too. And I too had to testify in court and I wasn’t believed. So perhaps I’m too emotionally invested in these girls being believed.

I’m sorry that’s happened to you too. Hearing about how rape victims can be treated in court is the main reason I didn’t report to the police. That and not being believed.

Unfortunately no matter how plausible each victim’s account is there will always be people out there adamant that she’s lying.

Right. But she had just been brutally raped and was no doubt in pain, humiliated and terrified he would hurt her again so wasn’t in the right frame of mind to put a boil wash on or something. Whoever and wherever she is I hope she doesn’t stumble on this thread and see your comments.

I was raped many times by my ex years ago. I’ve made peace with what happened and mostly forgiven myself for what he did. But comments from people (well my mum) on why I didn’t do xyz instead of abc when it was all still very raw hurt me a lot.

Sorry. I just usually find wiping poo or blood on fabric just makes it worse. But yeah stupid comment and consideration and totally irrelevant. My mind always questions things when I feel attached to an outcome and because of what’s at stake. Perhaps it’s just anxiety. Apologies for being stupid though.

Hopefully the prosecution does a good enough job and the people on the jury don’t think the way you do. Btw the wipes comment is odd. People clean up poo all the time with wipes 😐

Hmm I don’t think it’s fair to pick holes in what this victim has said. She was there, you were not. More or less accusing a victim of lying about a violent crime is so harmful as it continues to perpetuate harmful myths and stereotypes about victims of rape and how they “should” behave and react.

I do hope he goes down but I’m concerned about some the defense or jury picking holes in the testimonies.

Eg. Woman 5 said he flipped her over, removed his condom and the anally raped her. And her head was in pillows and she couldn’t breathe.
as horrifying as this is. How did she know he removed his condom at this point if her head was face down in the pillows. ?

she also said she cleaned up the blood and excrement with wipes which actually isn’t possible…

I think you've over analysed that conversation, she says "maybe" you did say that. People can think they said something different, people can misshear things.
As for a woman supporting him, there are strangers supporting him. It can't be so difficult to believe that his wife believes him and supports him.
I don't believe him. However, I do think there are things about him that have changed. I do think men can be different versions of themselves with different women and I think they quite often are different with different women. This is a woman he chose to marry, he may have respect for her that he hasn't had for other women, she may see him as a good, respectful man who respects her boundaries and consent.
I've seen several posts on here of women finding out their H has seen a prostitute and they have been in absolute shock because they thought they had a man who respects women and would never do something so seedy. It works the other way too, there are men who put on the charm for women and seem like great men but when they have a wife where they want her they abuse her.
I doubt we will ever really know the ins and outs of their relationship, maybe she is standing by him knowing or at least believing he sexually assaulted other women. Maybe she is another one of his victims. Maybe she is naive. Maybe she believes that this is a witch hunt from the media and the allegations don't match what she knows of him. I do think she looks quite comfortable in the video so I lean towards the latter.

That whole fraudulent American religious trip they're on absolutely loves redemption arcs. The worse someone has been in their past, the better their testimony on stage sounds. Evangelical churches were falling over each other in the 70s getting converted gang leader Nicky Cruz, who stabbed 16 people, to speak to their abject congregations. So thrilling!

I thought similarly re her childhood... I'd be surprised if there wasn't someone then, that makes Brand feel familiar.

I was at primary school with her, also with Beatrice and Eugene and others. She lived on the Wentworth estate, that area was very wealthy sports and business people. I think there was a lot of rot. It's grotty, makes me sick to think about.

This is so fucked up, what were they thinking!!
Her adoration for her rapist husband is being prioritised over the safety and protection of her own children. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

in the decade that they’ve had children - they’ve managed to successful hide their faces from the media.

and then they decide to show them during the rape trial? they must be so desperate. The jury won’t be able to see them anyway as they have to avoid going online

I had sympathy for LB before they posted the
picture of their daughters. They’ve never done that before. It’s clearly aimed at getting publicity and hoping the world see him as a loving family man. The fact she’s put him before the privacy of her daughters, during a fucking rape trial, is absolutely despicable. She doesn’t deserve any sympathy.

Off skin - not fabric. She just needs to say she attempted to clean but couldn’t get it all off and to have cleaned it all off with wipes is not possible. Particularly blood

I've just looked this up as I haven't been following the full details daily. I think, from what I have just read, that she was directed to clean up and directed to use wet wipes. It doesn't say she was successful. It says she complied. This is such a nickpickety point. It makes me despair.

same! Also she told police it was another man who told her to clean it up. Then later said it was Russel.

these little nit picky points will be highlighted unfortunately and the jury will have to work out if they are sure beyond reasonable doubt.
