To be really miserable about my body?

silentreflux · Today 15:50

I am a short, pear shaped woman (30s). I try really hard at to work out and eat healthy enough and have a BMI of around 27 (so a little overweight). However, ALL of my weight seems to go on my stomach and face. My shoulders are skinny, and my legs and small and muscly. But my stomach is disproportionately huge and flabby and its really getting me down. I know everyone carries weight differently but I feel like such an outlier!

Yes - I used to go to the gym 3-4 but I didn’t push myself to failure in the way I do now. My body is totally different… I store fat in thighs and bum so now I have a 6 pack. At 52!

Exactly! You need to do reps until you can’t physically do any more because your muscles are tired. And take creatine.

How did you get a six pack? That’s impressive! I want one but have a mum tum still although it’s better than it was.

I am small and pear shape too and my BMI was 26. I didn't look fat and was a size 10 but I knew I was fat and my body fat percentage confirmed at 33. My cholesterol was also high. I've lost a stone and my body is now perfectly proportioned. My body fat is 23 and I have a flat stomach. My legs and arms look very slim but that's because I'm shall bones.

My friend who us a GP said to me that you don't really store fat in just one or two areas of your body. It is distributed overall but if you are small bones, your legs and arms will appear normal.

I'd recommend you get your body fat mass tested, that will give a better indication than your BMI.

Wtf kind of comment is this!? It doesn’t matter what you or anyone “bet” if she doesn’t think or feel the same!
and yeah I love my body entirely right now. I have just lost 2stone and I’m bloody thrilled!

Jeezo, why the anger at this poster? They were just encouraging the OP to have some self acceptance

boxofshite · Today 17:28

@Charlenedickenswhat are you confused by?!

Charlenedickens · Today 17:26

boxofshite · Today 17:14

Disagree but it depends on what you want I guess

Huh?

I was going to ask this. Are you lifting heavy? Until your muscles can’t lift or push/pull any more? My shape has definitely changed since I’ve consistently started going to the gym. Sounds like you exercise a lot though!

Edited

The vast majority of us aren’t going to have the body of a 20 yr old supermodel even with surgery though.

I don’t think she said that’s what she wishes.

Thanks all, I think I need to be in more of a calorie deficit. I do look better when I'm around a stone lighter but I want to maintain my muscle and not feel fatigued when working out so its a challenge. I'll look at how to up my protein and lower my calories and see if that helps!

How old are you? Im 45 and suddenly realised exercising wasnt doing it anymore. My bmi has gone up to overweight for the first time in my life and i realised i need to count calories to get back to normal weight. I feel happiest at around bmi 22-23. Doing around 1600 calories a day until i get the weight in control. You wont starve. Just enough protein and fulfilling meals.

I'm in favour of doing whatever you can to be happy with your body

Look into surgical options? You dont deserve to go through life unhappy x

@have you got PCOS? Or have any hormone issues? We thought that my DD had got Cushings but it's turned out to be PCOS. The symptoms are stomach fat and a round face.

So what to do there is make sure it's not a large deficit - calculate your TDEE and then eat about 250 cal a day less than that.
For protein, try and eat at minimum 1.2g per kg of your weight daily. Then maybe look to add in something like running a couple of times a week (or cycling or whatever) as working in that zone is really good for burning belly fat.
Basically body recomposition - think of it like that rather than oh I need to lose weight, and measure your waist once a week as well as weighing yourself, as some weeks the scale may stall but if you can see the progress in terms of a smaller waist you'll know it's going in the right direction.

That’s very add to Ger accurate, nearly impossible and she would lose a pound every two weeks,

I'm 5ft and feel your pain. BMI of 25 and I look fat. So decided sod it, did wegovy tablets for 2 months, now BMI of 22 and the difference is remarkable. I'm now motivated to stay this way. Even a few pounds on short people can make a big difference.

Hmm, are you sure you’re pear shaped as you sound apple shaped,

anyway I don’t think it is a reason to stay overweight to retain muscle, you are not a pro athelete and you can strength train, lose fat and build muscle and when you hit target weight go into body recomp so maintain whilst dropping more weight,

but you want your cake and to eat it, you don’t wish to lose weight and you don’t like being fat, it doesn’t kind of work like that op I’m sorry, if you wish to reduce the fat on your stomach and face you will need to drop weight, if you wish to continue at this weight, then it will be very difficult for you to lose stomach and face fat,

Cora0 · Today 16:47

It sounds like you’re an apple, not a pear. Pears carry weight in their hips/bum/thighs but often have flat stomachs. Apples carry it in their stomach and sometimes boobs and have slim legs and arms.

Calorie deficit is the way to go though, and higher protein will help you build muscle and feel full longer.

Why do you bet that she looks great?

There's always a reply like this. How about she just looks normal?

Just eat in a small calorie deficit to lose the additional fat. Make sure your protein is decent though so you maintain your muscles.

Lovemycat2023 · Today 16:13

I’m the same height and BMI as you, albeit mine goes on my evenly so I don’t have any part of my body or face which doesn’t look chubby or that I like. I don’t have any advice, just wanted to say I know how you feel.
