To be really miserable about my body?

silentreflux · Today 15:50

I am a short, pear shaped woman (30s). I try really hard at to work out and eat healthy enough and have a BMI of around 27 (so a little overweight). However, ALL of my weight seems to go on my stomach and face. My shoulders are skinny, and my legs and small and muscly. But my stomach is disproportionately huge and flabby and its really getting me down. I know everyone carries weight differently but I feel like such an outlier!

It’s the body you’ve been given . So you just gotta learn to accept the build you have !

QueenOfAccountability · Today 15:53

Would a tummy tuck be helpful?

MyFavouriteGame · Today 15:54

What working out do you do?

I go to the gym but I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of my Mum tum entirely. Maybe if I went into a calorie deficit, and I don’t want to.

silentreflux · Today 15:56

I do spin, weights and reformer pilates. I'm reasonably fit and active. It's just my stomach and face that is getting me down!

Unfortunately, most people can’t carry much fat without their body looking out of proportion. At a bmi of 20, my body looks great. At a bmi of 23/24 I obviously don’t look fat but I am much less well proportioned IYSWIM. Most people don’t gain weight evenly. I suspect your skeleton is perfectly acceptably proportioned so you either accept your body the way it is, or you lose weight.

MeridaBrave · Today 15:59

Ultimately you can lose the fat by eating less, and it takes either willpower or WLIs. Describe a typical day of food. Also what weights are you lifting? As in how heavy how many reps

I was going to ask this. Are you lifting heavy? Until your muscles can’t lift or push/pull any more? My shape has definitely changed since I’ve consistently started going to the gym. Sounds like you exercise a lot though!

Youngbutsuccessfulmum · Today 16:01

You sound more like an apple than a pear I think. Pears carry weight on bottom and legs. Apples carry weight on their stomachs.

Do you progress your weights? Are you working all muscle groups? How many times a week are you doing weights and for how long?

I do body pump twice a week and some of us are lifting heavier weights and pushing ourselves to failure, really working up a sweat. Some people have a really light weight on and stick with the same weight over a long period of time. Which category would you say you fall in?

Are you tracking your food? Exercise alone wont help, you need to be in a calorie deficit as well. Do you try to eat plenty of protein?

MxCactus · Today 16:03

I am short and small boned, so I actually have to be a low-normal BMI of 18-20 to look a good shape. Any heavier and weight goes to my tummy/boobs/face/bum and I look out of proportion. When I'm slimmer I'm an hourglass with weight only on my boobs and bum/hips.

Sorry this probably isn't helpful, but what I mean is you might actually need a lower BMI to get an in-proption "shape". Sorry if that isn't helpful, but it's the case for me!

Youngbutsuccessfulmum · Today 16:07

Should say as well, I have lost about 28kg in the last 20 months, plus my body has really changed shape. I used to have fat flabby arms, and large solid legs, and I am looking much more lean and toned now. I still have a little ways to go, but my arms are completely normal sized now with very little wobble. I still have a little tiny bit of protrusion in my lower belly. I think it looks enormous and out of proportion to my slim waist, but no one else does, and I am a size 10 so it can't be that bad. Although not really a planking in a bikini body 🤦‍♀️😂

I bet you look great

nobody love their body entirely. We all have something we hate

Lovemycat2023 · Today 16:13

I’m the same height and BMI as you, albeit mine goes on my evenly so I don’t have any part of my body or face which doesn’t look chubby or that I like. I don’t have any advice, just wanted to say I know how you feel.

KathleenDarleenDayKnight · Today 16:15

Just eat in a small calorie deficit to lose the additional fat. Make sure your protein is decent though so you maintain your muscles.

silentreflux · Today 16:20

Thanks all, I think I need to be in more of a calorie deficit. I do look better when I'm around a stone lighter but I want to maintain my muscle and not feel fatigued when working out so its a challenge. I'll look at how to up my protein and lower my calories and see if that helps!

Why do you bet that she looks great?

There's always a reply like this. How about she just looks normal?

Wtf kind of comment is this!? It doesn’t matter what you or anyone “bet” if she doesn’t think or feel the same!
and yeah I love my body entirely right now. I have just lost 2stone and I’m bloody thrilled!

Cora0 · Today 16:47

It sounds like you’re an apple, not a pear. Pears carry weight in their hips/bum/thighs but often have flat stomachs. Apples carry it in their stomach and sometimes boobs and have slim legs and arms.

Calorie deficit is the way to go though, and higher protein will help you build muscle and feel full longer.

Hmm, are you sure you’re pear shaped as you sound apple shaped,

anyway I don’t think it is a reason to stay overweight to retain muscle, you are not a pro athelete and you can strength train, lose fat and build muscle and when you hit target weight go into body recomp so maintain whilst dropping more weight,

but you want your cake and to eat it, you don’t wish to lose weight and you don’t like being fat, it doesn’t kind of work like that op I’m sorry, if you wish to reduce the fat on your stomach and face you will need to drop weight, if you wish to continue at this weight, then it will be very difficult for you to lose stomach and face fat,

I'm in favour of doing whatever you can to be happy with your body

Look into surgical options? You dont deserve to go through life unhappy x

I'm 5ft and feel your pain. BMI of 25 and I look fat. So decided sod it, did wegovy tablets for 2 months, now BMI of 22 and the difference is remarkable. I'm now motivated to stay this way. Even a few pounds on short people can make a big difference.

So what to do there is make sure it's not a large deficit - calculate your TDEE and then eat about 250 cal a day less than that.
For protein, try and eat at minimum 1.2g per kg of your weight daily. Then maybe look to add in something like running a couple of times a week (or cycling or whatever) as working in that zone is really good for burning belly fat.
Basically body recomposition - think of it like that rather than oh I need to lose weight, and measure your waist once a week as well as weighing yourself, as some weeks the scale may stall but if you can see the progress in terms of a smaller waist you'll know it's going in the right direction.

That’s very add to Ger accurate, nearly impossible and she would lose a pound every two weeks,

@have you got PCOS? Or have any hormone issues? We thought that my DD had got Cushings but it's turned out to be PCOS. The symptoms are stomach fat and a round face.

The vast majority of us aren’t going to have the body of a 20 yr old supermodel even with surgery though.

Most people won't but you'll have the body closer to you want
