Should I complain to Lidl?

So I was doing some shopping with dd (4) and when near the fridges the assistant who was shelf staking dropped or knocked off (I didn’t see) this heavy metal bar that goes at the front of the shelves where they put the prices IYKWIM. It really hurt and shocked me - I immediately bent over to put pressure on my foot cos it was stinging, he did apologise and I appreciate he didn’t do it on purpose and I was overwhelmingly glad it didn’t hit dd! But as I’ve taken my rights off now this is the mark it’s left……..
so YABU- just get over it
OR
YANBU - that’s not just a bump, say something

Should I complain to Lidl?

Oh and I didn’t say anything to a manager at the time as a) I was a bit embarrassed cos I thought I’d overreacted and b) dd was getting tired and mardy

I think yabu, it was an accident, op

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · Yesterday 21:53

Accidents happen but if you were going to do something it should probably have been at the time

5289843DM · Yesterday 21:53

Did you take the staff members name so you could add that to the complaint?
What do you hope to gain from a complaint?
What financial amount have you lost as a result of this accident?

But as I’ve taken my rights off now this is the mark it’s left…….. I assume you mean tights? Was there supposed to be a pic? Maybe still be approved?

Lidl won’t help you. I was injured by their automatic doors that malfunctioned and closed on me and sliced my arm open and their head office couldn’t have been less interested.

You do need to pay attention to what’s happening around you when you’re shopping though, especially with a 4 year old.

nutella8 · Yesterday 21:56

It sounds like a genuine accident and the employee did apologise. Unfortunately these things do happen. Unless there was a serious injury or obvious carelessness, I’m not sure complaining to Lidl is really necessary. Sometimes it’s best just to accept the apology and move on.

Whatyoutalkingabouteh · Yesterday 21:57

What outcome are you wanting?

NoShitHere · Yesterday 21:58

Did you mean to post a photo?

tinyspiny · Yesterday 22:00

It was an accident and he apologised , I’m not quite sure what else you want .

WitsEndFFS · Yesterday 22:00

It should have been recorded in their accident book, surely? How else will they track if there’s a problem with that type of edging?

HappyLizard23 · Yesterday 22:02

sounds like an accident that Lidl (through their staff) have already apologised for. What are you looking for out of a complaint? Financial gain?

This

I wouldn’t complain but I think you should inform them

Redfluffyblanket · Yesterday 22:05

What do you want from your complaint?

You talk of a mark? So presumably no real damage?

This is what I thought too.

givingupimdone · Yesterday 22:30

I’m not trying to gain anything, just felt he was a bit flippant if anything, but it’s an injury all the same. It’s someone else who said to me I should complain and tbh honest I’m not sure it’s worth the effort and I do agree accidents happen.

AND yes I meant my TIGHTS and I have uploaded a photo

So your losses are a slight bump and pair of tights and the guy apologised...what did you expect him to do?

Its a weird world that an accident occurs and someone wants to complain...and what you get money, the guy gets the sack? What's to be gained except waisting your time and maybe get another apology.

You won't get money because you didn't speak to the manager at the time because let's be completely honest it wasn't that big a deal. Someone has mentioned compo and you've got your tights off in a flash!

HotFuss93 · Yesterday 23:56

She’s going to do her best compo face for the tabloids!!!!! You received an apology, now move on with your life Halo

"Sliced open" , you say?

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · Today 05:40

Of course, and that clumsy shop assistant should be placed in the stocks so customers can throw all the expired produce at him. How dare he be flippant when he dropped something at work. At the very least he should have volunteered to bathe your wound in healing oils.

There's still no picture, btw.

Mauro711 · Today 06:43

At most you might get another apology. I can’t see how it’s worth it as they have already apologised once. Two apologies won’t make you feel any better. It was just an accident.

ithinkthereforeyouarewrong · Today 07:05

It’s worth emailing and making them aware of the incident they should record it and if the staff member was blase I suspect they haven’t. But I wouldn’t expect anything back.

Pippa12 · Today 07:12

If all you’ve sustained is a bruise, is it really worth your time and effort to find email, write the complaint just to entertain an automated response. What will you write? The bar hit me accidentally, I didn’t require any first aid or assistance but the apology wasn’t sincere enough.

You must have more important things to do with a toddler. Whoever told you to complain unlikely would if it was themselves, they probably just didn’t know what else to say.

WildFatball · Today 07:19

You should get your foot checked and you should email them to let them know what happened. It should be recorded in their accident book and health and safety around this process should be reviewed to ensure it doesn't happen again. Next time it could seriously hurt someone.

chirrupybird · Today 07:23

Were you actually injured? Or just a bit of a red mark? Get it checked by a doctor if you are worried. A bit late to complain now, would you recognise the shelf stacker?
