On way back from seeing family with dp. Dp driving. He is quite particular about his car, won’t let me or anyone eat in it etc. we stopped at a services to get coffee and some
shopping because we are in a bit of a rush to get home. I was starving and wanted a burger, dp said no time. And he wouldn’t let me eat it in the car. So I picked up a pack of crisps and ate a few while we walked back to the car. I knew he wouldn’t want me to finish them in the car so I folded over the bag and put it in the bag with the rest of the shopping.
dp gets really narky and said he can smell the crisps and now his car stinks of crisps why couldn’t I have just waited an hour to eat till we got home
hes now in a bad mood
Who is bu!

I agree with him - nobody eats in my car - couldn't you just wait until you got home?

But she wasn’t eating in the car, what’s your point? It was a packet of crisps, with a folded down pack in with the shopping! OP said she wouldn’t dare to eat them in the car!

We REALLY need to know the model and the year of this car which is too grand to transport crisps.

It's a Red Citroen Picasso

with a nodding Ronnie Pickering on the rear parcel shelf

We love a car picnic here. YANBU.

Does that include wine gums? Because if it doesn’t, then it’s not proper!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 16/10/2026 18:26

But do crisps even make a lingering smell in cars?

No, not even pickled onion flavour. I'm somewhat of an expert on the matter.

May I ask are you referring to pickled onion monster munch, the food of gods?

beautifuIstranger · 16/10/2026 19:12

What would I do?

This is the time for an emergency packet of pickled monster munch. Delish.

Make sure you accidently drop the packet so all the crumbs go everywhere. Then lick your fingers, eat the pickled munch and then change the radio channel whilst smearing the pickled flavour over everything you can imagine the car.

Then refuse to have sex with him for weeks.

Its what the prick deserves

I understand the smell issue. Dh would absolutely freak out if someone ate Salt and vinegar crisps in his car. He is fine with other stuff though so the situation wouldn't have arisen. I don't like when people are precious about their cars, it seems ridiculous to me.

So why did he not let her eat a burger outside the car? Or the crisps?

Calliopespa · 16/10/2026 19:10

The only answer to that is to discharge a completely noxious fart deep into his car upholstery.

My partner has a really sensitive sense of smell and can't stand having smelly food in the car. I try to respect that because I don't want him to be miserable. I don't think he's a child because of it. I'm autistic and he respects my many sensitivities! We care about each other.

Caring about each other goes both ways, his wife was hungry, did he care…. No!

I would hate the smell of cheese and onion crisps . And I would hate burger and onion smelly too . Or chips with vinegar . How far from home where you ? Really, nobody is that starving for a bag of crisps . Constant snacking and eating are a new thing especially in cars . Never growing up ever ate snacks in the car .
But I probably would have to compromise.

She wasn’t starving for a bag of crisps, she was starving for a quick sit down meal but he wouldn’t let her eat that either

Small dick energy.
I couldn’t have sex with a man who was that precious about his car.

Do his windows not work to let in a bit of air? Are you incapable of eating without spilling stuff everywhere? He sounds quite mean and pretty highly strung. No time for you to have a meal but not even allowed an open packet of crisps in his car. Sounds pretty controlling and not very fun

Yeah, definately not a person I'd want to be stranded on a desert Island with!

XenaSharples · 16/10/2026 18:55

His car doesn't matter. 🙄

What a wanker.

SometimesthingsMatter · 16/10/2026 18:47

God he'd have a heartattack if he saw my car after dcs have had a happy meal, or family drive thru, coffees etc. It can be cleaned and aired out. I dread to think what the man is like in the house!

Lottie6712 · 16/10/2026 18:46

Why was there no time to eat anything there? He doesn't sound like someone if enjoy being with....

graceinspace999 · 16/10/2026 18:39

That’s it! I can’t stand the smell of crisps or any food in the car and I cant stand certain foods in the house. Husband is the same so we respect each other.
We all have our ‘stuff.’

But presumably op would know if her husband was particularly sensitive in this way. It sounds to me like he was in a bad mood with her before she wanted to eat and he was punishing her.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/10/2026 18:42

If he says he could smell the crisps in their folded over closed packet inside a bag, maybe what he was smelling was crisps on your breath.

Have you considered chewing a pig of garlic before getting in his car? I would be giving that serious thought, just because he is being so U.

She wasn't eating them in the car because face ache was complaining about food and she knew he wouldn't like it so she put them in the bag with the rest of the shopping and he was still complaining .

How else does your DH control you op?

You for being with such a man

This!! I can't believe what I'm reading. I would've eaten the burger in the car and dropped some 'by accident'. I'm not usually petty, but you get as good as you give.
