On way back from seeing family with dp. Dp driving. He is quite particular about his car, won’t let me or anyone eat in it etc. we stopped at a services to get coffee and some
shopping because we are in a bit of a rush to get home. I was starving and wanted a burger, dp said no time. And he wouldn’t let me eat it in the car. So I picked up a pack of crisps and ate a few while we walked back to the car. I knew he wouldn’t want me to finish them in the car so I folded over the bag and put it in the bag with the rest of the shopping.
dp gets really narky and said he can smell the crisps and now his car stinks of crisps why couldn’t I have just waited an hour to eat till we got home
hes now in a bad mood
Who is bu!

I bet he can feel a pea under six mattresses too.

OddBalling · 16/10/2026 20:07

Reminds me of the time my ex stopped me from eating a mcflurry in his car (he drove a second hand Citroen C3).

There's a reason he's my ex.

Your husband is being unreasonable.

Ah that's true, maybe eat them then wipe crisp residue hands over his windows 😂

That’s a great resolution!

DoubleBusy2026 · 16/10/2026 20:03

No man would be telling me I couldn’t eat in the bloody car! What a cheek

Zanatdy · 16/10/2026 20:03

What an idiot

Eating food in a car does mess the carpets up.

Bits of crisp work themselves into the mat fibres and are difficult to vaccuum out.

I used to have an old car and eat in that and it was really manky. I don't eat in the new one and the carpets are a lot better.

If he loves his car that much he should have an interior polish spray or something. A bit of a spray of that should return it to the old smell.

But you should respect his space and he should respect yours.

Eating food in a car messes the carpets up?! How the hell do you eat?!?!

Oh my god first poster-MyLimeGuide

I nearly choked laughing, I guessed Tesla driver too (just after having an argument with the kids about Elon Musk and Teslas after being passed out by one tonight!)

Yes, or the M&S Halloween special edition pickled worms. Both eaten in the car under test conditions, neither leaves a lingering smell detectable by humans.

Say what!! M&S pickled onion worms.. I’m heading there tomorrow!!

Haven’t read the thread so not sure if this has been mentioned but I’ve just read about a medical condition where you are hypersensitive to smell - both in detecting and in finding things super offensive - and it’s more common in people with ASD. Not saying that’s what’s going on, but it’s possible - though perhaps unlikely - he genuinely has a strong aversion to the smell and is not just being a precious dick about his car. I don’t have ASD but can smell an off citrus fruit from several rooms away and can’t stand being near that specific smell.

I had this in pregnancy. I couldn't be in the same room as a banana or an onion.

ETA but I doubt he's pregnant. Give him a pass if he is OP!

May I ask are you referring to pickled onion monster munch, the food of gods?

Funny smell in my car a while ago, found a tub of butter in the boot area, lord knows how long it had been there🙄

Oh dairy is the worst. If I was op, i'd drop a little milk under one of the car mats or some hidden crevice in the car, it'll drive him nuts...(evil cackle inspired by October).

Sod that I would have had a burger and bugger the wait

I would have made sure it had plenty of onions in it

OnTheBoardwalk · 16/10/2026 19:28

I’m torn on this one, I wouldn’t want someone eating a burger in my car, how old is his car?

he shouldn’t have stopped you eating at the service station unless you were rushing to catch a train or something? Did you really not have enough time?

I wouldn’t be bothered by crisps unless as PP said they were scampi nicknacks (crisps or corn snacks) they stink but I do really want a packet now

He sounds like my Dad, we were never allowed to eat or drink anything in the car as kids, so I'm used to it and even now, am still really careful eating anything in any car. Moaning about the smell of crisps after you've eaten them sounds OTT though, open the bloody window.

MMUmum · 16/10/2026 19:26

JengaCupboard · 16/10/2026 16:52

He's being ridiculous. If he doesn't want food in the car he waits for you to eat first. Muppet.

Took my car to the hand car-wash the other week. Half a sleeve of mince pies were retrieved from under the back storage compartment. From last years Christmas eve dog walk.

I'm afraid I can't relate...

Funny smell in my car a while ago, found a tub of butter in the boot area, lord knows how long it had been there🙄

sprigatito · 16/10/2026 19:20

Who the fuck does he think he is? What a pompous moron. I would have bought myself some decent food and eaten it in the car irrespective of his opinion. As long as you’re not smearing burger sauce into the upholstery he has no leg to stand on. People need to eat.

cartagenagina · 16/10/2026 19:20

He sounds like a pathetic baby.

Ooo I'd definitely crack a bag open just to see his face, and oh how they get stuck in your teeth, let's see, any tooth picks in the glove compartment?!
