to think eyebrows don’t NEED to be done

I was asked if I wanted my entire face waxed. How mortifying!

I’ve never had a manicure or my eyebrows done or anything like that. I put off going to the hairdresser for as long as I can because I hate it. I have a skincare regime and I shave as and when I want to, but that’s my limit. I have had some really snide remarks from other women who do see these things as a priority, so I actually think OP might have a point. I mean, the patriarchal capitalistic system of persuading women that there’s something to fix so they pay to fix it is hardly news, is it? I just can’t be bothered with it all. I’ve got nothing against women who can be bothered, of course. Crack on. I’d just rather be spending my time and money on other stuff.

Well nails don’t need to be done either, but if you’re the sort of person who goes and pays to get their nails ‘done’, is it not reasonable to assume that you might also be interested in getting your brows done? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nothing NEEDS to be done beyond being clean.

I’ve never had anything done to my eyebrows bar plucking the odd stray hair. Mine are on the sparse side anyway so eyebrow pencil is more needed than tidying.

You could argue nails don't need to be 'done' either. Same with hair or make up. Its just nice and some people prefer it.

I get mine threading every couple of months and it does make a difference. It looks more polished without looking like I’ve actually done anything. I’d never get them microbladed or anything, I like the look of natural brows much more and fashions change too often to want to be stuck with something faddy. I also don’t have any places I frequent enough to trust I wouldn’t end up looking like I’ve had slugs glued to my forehead.

Noone needs to do anything but as a feel good it's a nice to do. As someone with very pale eyebrows, a lick of tint and a tidy up seems to really change the shape of my face, accentuates my eyes and makes me feel so much better.

You don't need to get your nails done, either, you choose to. The woman at the salon was just trying to upsell and make a bit more money.

Getting my eyebrows done is the one beauty treatment I am for, about quarterly, so not wildly extravagant... they do get a bit shaggy without it, especially the right one. I do trim my fingernails (myself,) but I don't pay for them. More than one eyebrow beauticians suggested doing my 'tache, and I have said no, mainly because I suspect it's a different level of pain than threading/waxing eyebrows, and I am not that masochistic.

I think nails should be kept from getting too ragged, but the rest of it isn't necessary. Most of the beauty industry wouldn't exist if they only did what was entirely necessary, and upwelling is a very normal part of any job involved with selling goods or services.

Nails don't need to be done either beyond cutting/filing. But people do all sorts to themselves to feel better and that's ok.

They don't need to be done. But neither does leather conditioning on a car valet.

My eyebrows never recovered from the 90s. If I didn't get them done I'd give folks flashbacks, in a bad way.

I went for a brain MRI recently and one of the questions on the form along with, "Do you have a pacemaker, steel bolts through your spine etc" was do you have microbladed/tattoo'd eyebrows?

Apparently the pigment can either heat up or create artifacts that distort the image. I don't think your eyebrows fry and your face falls off or anything drastic but now you know.

Oh I disagree. I am currently very late for my brow appointment and am channeling Bernard Manning! I look and feel so much better when they are done.

Nails don't need to be done either but personally I like have nicely shaped tidy eyebrows. No beauty treatment needs to be done beyond basic hygiene but everyone has their own preferences

None of it needs to be done, really. As long as you and your clothes are clean,you're good to go.

Maybe they dont NEED to be done but I love having mine done.

If i didnt I'd have two extemly long wire hairs on my right brow sticking out and a wiry grey hair in the middle of my left.

I dont need to have my lashes tinted, a pedicure with polish, leg and underarm waxing, upper lip threading, my hair highlighted either but I like having them done and how I look.

Nobody "needs" to have their nails done either.

Depends on how yours are to begin with. I never bothered with eyebrows until my 30s and then once I tried a bit of plucking - just minimal, no shaping. It transformed my face! And then I tried a bit of eyebrow pencil - omg I was stunned. I only need to do my eyebrows to look alive. Everything else is already fine.

Mine look ok without any plucking or tinting but I think it improves the look of them if they’re straggly or the colour doesn’t suit your skin tone.

Well the thing is, it doesn't really matter what your eyebrows (or any other part of you) look like. The important thing is that whatever they do look like, you must be striving to make them look different. This is the entire purpose of the fashion and beauty industry, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that a sufficient number of women are at all times preoccupied with concerns about whether they have the right eyebrow shape, boob size, or type of footwear to notice that we are still earning less, and doing more housework than men. Who, needless to say, mostly don't worry about moisturising their armpits because they are busy running the world and hoarding the wealth.

This is why we just can't get organised to overthrow the patriarchy 😆
