People saying pack lunch instead of packed lunch

I've been saying pack lunch since infant school in the 70s,as did my parents and grandparents. It's not some new invention to piss you off.

I thought supper was a light meal before bed?

So could either be a light evening meal if your main meal had been in the middle of the day (so that has been your “dinner”), or in addition to an evening dinner if you’re hungry again.

I only ever have “supper” at Scout family camp - it’s a cake and hot chocolate before bed !

You could well be right.

My GM and all the adults on my father's side of the family said it. No idea why my mother followed suit and I can't remember what her sister called the evening meal. I'm sure it wouldn't have been tea though, that's an afternoon thing with cake and sandwiches.

I took to referring to the evening meal as dinner because none of my friends knew wtf I was talking about if I said supper.

Its quicker to drop the "ed" and just say pack lunch. Nobody has died because they say pack instead of packed, as far as im aware 😆

"Brown Bagging" sounds faintly disgusting - like the sort of thing you'd do in an isolated and disused industrial estate or deep in the woods.

'Pack up' was a Yorkshire variation - and probably other places - which I remember even as a child. So from ancient times.

'Pack lunch' has coincided with smartphone use, along with 'worse' when they really mean 'worst'.
And on it goes...

Was using pack lunch before smartphones…

Really? They have different meanings whereas pack is just a shortened version.

DH’s family are Welsh and say snappin’ which makes zero sense to me.
Packing up was the phrase where I grew up in East Yorkshire, or rather packin’ oop.

I agree OP. I don’t mind any regional terms like pack up, butty box etc. But “pack lunch” makes no sense.

I feel the same about people who say "New Years". No. It's either "New Year's Eve" or "New Year". Cannot explain why it winds me up so much, and fully accept that it's a me problem!

Pack up doesn’t bother me as much as it’s another term for it. Pack lunch just sounds like it’s being said wrong.

Pack up makes me irrational and it’s wrong. I might start a thread on it.

Gives me the total rage.

How dare people speak differently to me.
