And Vinted is to blame. Nice items that would previously have been snapped up in eBay auctions are sitting there for weeks on end as there no urgency to buy. Prices have dropped so low it’s hardly worth it any more.

The second hand clothes market selling via Vinted is thriving. I’ve never bought more second hand clothes in my life and the same for everyone I know. People who would never have bought things in charity shops, are now buying lots from Vinted - especially teens. It’s a great thing for the planet in my opinion - stop buying cheap unethical fast fashion from primark, instead recycle old clothes.

Agree! My DD19 buys all her clothes on Vinted. It’s a recent thing but she’s hooked. Most are barely worn.

Do you mean that now sellers can’t charge high prices for second hand clothes? Because that sounds like a good thing! Second hand clothes should be genuinely affordable.

As a genuine buyer, who is prepared to pay a reasonable price for a decent buy, I see this from the other side;

~ so many items that are described as being in good condition really much more worn in reality

~ items such as a blouse described as “beautiful” and photographed cleverly when it’s actually Shein polyester tat

~buyers demanding almost the original price for an item that is not new; even when it is new, the vendor is not taking in to account that we are buying on trust without the security one would have buying from a trusted company, and we have no idea about the conditions in which they have been stored.

Having said that I have bought some amazing bargains this summer from genuine sellers but a lot has been disappointing too.

I’m also willing to pay a decent price for quality. I like pure wool especially cashmere and can’t afford much new, so I’m now very selective but I will pay and I would scroll past any cashmere stings that were ridiculously cheap. I find a brand and size I know fits and keep an eye out.

I try to price my own sales with a similar mindset but they aren’t budging as fast as they did so rather than reduce to a ridiculous price, I will remove them after a while, and give to the charity shop.

As a total novice, for those of you that sell on Vinted, what do you package the clothes in?

You can buy various sizes bags from Amazon or Vinted. I personally save the ones I buy things in and re-use them to fit with the idea that buying second hand saves the planet. I buy loads from Vinted and selling some.
