The internet and our international supply chains make it much easier for unfriendly states to interfere and cause significant disruption. Food, fuel, data, banking, travel & transport, power, water, our elections are all targets.

Hence the warning to have enough essentials in hand to survive a week or two. The threat isn't only from El Nino.

The war in Ukraine will end in a negotiated peace. Most politicians seems to know this is the only possible outcome now, but endless manoeuvres and posturing due to domestic politics in their own countries is delaying the inevitable.
What the war in Ukraine has done, as far as I can see, is change the face of warfare and any future conflict that may arise. Those Russian tanks that amassed on the border in the early days of the war turned out to be not much match for cheap Turkish drones.
What should be of more concern to people, in my view, is the creaking of complex global supply chains. Combined with extreme weather events, inflation and mass migrations, I think we will see an end to 'modern' lifestyles in the West in the next few decades.

The “leadership” in these areas know what’s going on, but enjoy the money and power .. the “foot soldiers” have no clue they are being exploited by a hostile foreign nation.

No, we wouldn't. Given our history, the UK would be regarded as a threat and as "unfinished business".

It's possible of course but so are a million things over which we have zero control so there is little point in worrying about them. Concentrate on daily life and what you can control, find the pleasures in the small stuff and carry on, there's nothing else you or I can do to influence world events.

Possibly but not open warfare which would provoke a nato response. I think we will see an increase in disruption to systems - power, telecoms, ATC etc. designed to disrupt industry and everyday life, and damage morale.

I think there will be more individual acts of terror, paid for and encouraged by enemy states. People, often the vulnerable young, groomed on-line and manipulated.

Supply chains may struggle.Life will be less convenient for many, more of a challenge.

i cant really believe anyone is psychologically ready for war so thats an odd headline but i think the articles is more about accepting that war is likely that it would look different and the government and population preparing physically for it.

I dont know if its all to start soft launching more money for defence and more acceptance of measures like rationing diesel.

Yes - I think people think of drone attacks and hand to hand combat but modern warfare equally means shady donations and placement of people in a position to influence UK politics, dissemination of disinformation online - aimed to divide a nation that should be united.

I've been wondering this too. I'd be wary of assuming that anyone knows more than they are telling. Remember weapons of mass destruction? When we went to war over them we assumed that they knew more than they were telling us. But we all know how that turned out.

A grey war is a definite possibility and may already be ongoing at a very low level - there have been some interesting court cases recently often involving foreign nationals and, for example, arson attacks).

I don’t think we will have a war in the conventional sense. I don’t think we will have bombs dropping or open combat in the streets.
I think an increased threat from terrorist attacks, cyberattacks and the likes are a very real threat and it’s probably more of a matter of when not if. I think we need to be prepared for a rough an expensive few years of instability.

We’re already at war, more or less. Just not a conventional guns and tanks and soldiers one.

We’d be screwed if we ever got attacked. We can’t rely on the US, we’ve fucked off the EU, our armed forces are underfunded and depleted. Large swathes of the population can barely cope with daily life or the most minor of challenges, let only band together to form a resistance. The only thing we have is the nuclear deterrent, which we won’t use, for obvious reasons, and we’re members of NATO, which might stand for something.

I think the government wants us to think that, I’m not sure why but the nudge initiatives are ramping up. Not you OP but the BBC, the prepping advice, the Wargame, the new Apocalypse show. Something’s afoot.
