If someone put up a post and captioned it “happy birthday to my favourite little sister” this is clearly saying they have a favourite out of their sisters to me? The other two sisters are older than the person posting the post don’t know if that changes the context.

They only have one little sister. So no one else can be the favourite little sister. I call my daughter my favourite daughter because I don’t have another daughter. It’s just a joke. Anyone who takes umbrage must be very over sensitive.

It’s a common joke when someone is the ‘only’ to say they’re your favourite.

‘My favourite granddaughter!’
’I’m your only granddaughter!’

And so on.

Surely this is just the same as my telling DD she's my favorite daughter (I only have one).

If she is the youngest of all the siblings, then she is the littlest, so it’s a play on words really. Same as if someone said my favourite middle sister or oldest sister.

I mean it’s a pretty obvious / common joke. How can you not get it?

It sounds to me like the poster only has one little sister, so no need for anybody to take offence

I agree with everyone else. The "little" changes the context. She's the only little sister, so therefore she's the favourite little sister by default. She's the only possible option.

You're trying to take offence where there's none to be found.

I'm pretty sure that this is a very standard script from printed birthday cards. My favourite Grandma, My favourite baby brother.

Hallmark cards aren't considered purveyors of rage bait and cited as an organisation that tries to break up families.

If the other siblings are older then it’s just a joke. Like saying my dd is my favorite daughter when she’s my only daughter, doesn’t mean she’s my favorite DC.

I have a favourite baby grandson, a favourite little granddaughter and a favourite oldest granddaughter it’s a term of endearment enjoyed by everyone when we’re having a snuggle on the sofa.

I often tell my children they are my favourite- favourite middle child, favourite oldest child, favourite youngest child. It doesn’t mean they are my favourite overall.

My mum writes “happy birthday to my favourite child” in my birthday card every year and I’m an absolute legend so it must be true.

She does also put it in my siblings’ cards, but I’m sure that’s only so they don’t feel left out.

My brother calls himself 'your favourite brother'.

I tell him he's fooling himself. Even though I only have the one brother. (Love him to bits really).

Jesus Christ. How can this need explaining to you? You're their only little sister. That's the point of the joke! Even Rocky in Project Hail Mary understood that joke, and he was literally an alien with no sense of humor!
