AIBU to prefer Galaxy over Dairy Milk chocolate?

Genuinely torn. But tonight, Galaxy wins it.

Galaxy tastes waxy to me.

I have to agree. I usually much prefer galaxy, but I bought a bar last week and it was so disappointing!

Neither is worthy of being called "chocolate". You can barely get a hint of cocoa in the taste, the overwhelming taste is just sugar with a cloying stickiness of palm oil.

Galaxy ingredients in descending order of percentage contents: Sugar, Skimmed MILK Powder, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, milk fat, Whey Permeate, Palm Fat, Emulsifier (Lecithin)

Dairy Milk ingredients in descending order of percentage contents: sugar, milk solids, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, vegetable fats (palm, shea), emulsifiers (E442, E476), flavourings.

Actual decent quality chocolate ingredients in descending order of percentage contents: Cocoa Mass, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Vanilla

They're both pretty bad tbf, but if we're talking cheap chocolate, what you want is Tesco's or Sainsbury's standard range. Milk or dark are both way better than either galaxy or dairy milk (although I prefer dark).

Galaxy is disgustingly waxy horrible stuff. I wouldn’t even call it chocolate. Just sugar & fat.

Dairy Milk isn’t great, but at least it’s edible.

M&S, Ritter Sport, Waitrose Number 1, Tony’s, Lindt are all much better

I’ve just discovered Waitrose No1 chocolate - it’s amazing!

I had a Dairy Milk mint crisp bar last night, it was bloody delicious 😋
Not a fan of Galaxy and Tony's tastes like the worst cheap cooking chocolate to me.

Even before all the palm oil stuff, I was not a fan of Dairy Milk.

The chocolate itself is chalky and tastes cheap.

I didn't actively dislike it for the most part, but would never opt for it. The exception was Cadbury's caramel which tasted absolutely revolting to me (and I loved a galaxy caramel, for example). It genuinely gave me strong notes of dog poo smell.

Dog shit caramel aside, I reckon the populatiry of Dairy Milk persists on a similar basis to Hershey's wax/chocolate in the US - childhood nostalgia for something that's actually quite bad.

Cadburys has a slight edge over Gakaxy but the taste isn't the same as it was.

I live in a town that had a Cadburys factory and - ahem- had "sources" that fed my chocolate addiction. When the factory was closing down there was an open day and at the end of the tour you got a free Crunchie.

Galaxy used to be my favourite years ago. It was silky smooth. It doesn’t taste the same anymore. I’m so used to Cadbury now even with the shite ingredients that when I have handmade chocolates, I still prefer the crap stuff.

I love Galaxy, there’s something a bit treacle-y about it. I really dislike posh chocolate, even Tony’s milk chocolate; it isn’t anywhere near sweet enough for me. One of the few areas in which I genuinely prefer the cheaper thing.

Imo dairy milk is way more waxy than galaxy. Out of those 2 galaxy wins, but id prefer Lindt. But none of them taste as good as they used to.

I thinks Tony's is overrated

I know MN disapproves but Hotel chocolate batons are good

I agree. Both are vile, I wouldn't put them in my mouth. I like Lidl 85% chocolate.

Cadbury had a very bad Easter … as the chocolate just isn’t as good anymore. I would sooner pay another 50p and get back to “a glass and a half” days.
Maybe they could do a “premium range” that uses the old recipe, but they choose to race for the bottom instead.

I used to prefer Dairy Milk, but all chocolate tastes like " chocolate coated" which always seemed to me NOT to be chocolate.

I’ve never liked Galaxy chocolate, it has a strange waxy consistency and artificial taste. I’m a lifelong Cadburys girl and it’s still my favourite, despite the ENDLESS bores on MN banging on about palm oil!

‘Posh’ chocolate like HC, and most other brands: Lindt, Tony’s, etc. are very unsatisfactory to me. Give me a bar of Cadburys Fruit & Nut any day over a ridiculously expensive packet of chocolate from HC.

Yorkie used to be really good, it’s rubbish now. Kit Kats have never tasted right since they changed from foil wrappers to the modern ones.

Cadbury sold out in the worst possible way - it almost feels like a betrayal to mess up with the recipe so badly and then expect us to accept it. Similarly, Galaxy is like the poor cousin to what it used to taste like.

Ritter Sport is decent and also Waitrose No.1 chocolate. Cadbury and Galaxy are second rate - not worth the calories!
