Friends who brag about their wealth but never get a round in (but happily chug down the rounds bought by others)

Just say "count me out of rounds, I'll do my own thing". And say at the outset that you want to split bills according to what you had.

I had a friend-of-a-friend like this, she always claimed she earned less than everyone else, was veggie so her meal was cheaper, she'd had soft drinks (eg 3 mocktails rather than a glass of wine)...or whatever. When out with her, the second she started up, I totted up her bill seperately and she paid her part - the rest usually split evenly between everyone else. Obviously, her total often came to more than a share would have.

“It’s your round” is the appropriate phrase.

I don't actually think I've met anyone like that.

The wealthy bastards I know tend to plead poverty, if they mention money at all.
