AIBU to expect a refund after wee flavoured hotel bed?

AIBU (fully open to being told I am!) to expect my money back, under Premier Inn's 'Good night guarantee'?

I'd been on the bed a while before I noticed an unmistakeable smell - the previous guest had wet it! My warmth and the pressure of me lying on it had released the odour, which when I got up and pulled back the bedsheets was overpowering! No significant dampness to be fair, but my pajamas were contaminated. I immediately told reception and they were great, very apologetic, and moved me to another room. But I had to have a thorough shower (at 11pm) which woke me up, and I felt 'icky' all night even in the fresh bed, so didn't sleep well.

I asked for my money back and they refused, saying the issue was resolved by moving me to another room. I can see where they're coming from, but on the other hand I DIDN'T have a good night, because of an oversight on their part!! I'm disappointed in PI. I thought their customer service was better than that. I'm a fairly regular guest but I'll be thinking twice before booking with them in future!

What do you think?

You’d be very very disappointed at a travel lodge breakfast op. Even as a meat eater I felt robbed for the over cooked dry as cardboard food. Don’t book there.

I think you should have had a refund and a free breakfast ( if you still wanted it after that) That’s totally gross

The Op has another thread on the go about her Premier Inn breakfast being a disappointment too!!

LostNFoundSV · 22/09/2026 16:11

Premier Inn should compensate you in full for the ruined night. You had to suffer the disgusting consequences of their failure to provide you with the clean and fresh bed that you booked and paid for. As the customer, you then had to disturb your rest in order to report their negligence, to shower, change clothes, and move to another room. This was not a good night’s sleep!

Flavour only relates to Taste, not Smell

Matlocking · 22/09/2026 16:01

I would imagine with stag and hen dos - premier inn is faced with a lot of piss soaked bedding with the guest claiming it “was like that when I came to bed”

5128gap · 22/09/2026 15:59

I would have expected a complete refund and possibly an extra gesture of goodwill on top, because this is disgraceful service. There is no way they should have missed that when turning over the room.

burnoutbabe · 22/09/2026 15:57

From their point of view they don’t know that the op didn’t create the issue? As the cleaners will deny they made the bed up when wet.

so it’s hard to prove it wasn’t the op, unlike say an external noise they could fix.

But they gave her a new room though so why would she need a refund, she didn't sleep in the bed. there was an issue and they rectified it

She did get in the bed and lie on it. She had to get up, after already preparing to settle for the night, then call reception, then pack up her things, then move room, then shower - that is disruptive.

And this was in their control - all beds should have been checked by housekeeping prior to letting a new guest take the room. This should never have happened - it's not like trams outside or street noise.

The sheets can't have been checked / room cleaned thoroughly. That is not on.

ForLimeHiker · 22/09/2026 15:49

Charge it back on your credit card, they are being totally unreasonable, you couldn’t exactly leave instead of being given a new room, they cannot consider the matter resolved, it’s also a matter of public health so I’d be taking it further and reporting to EH and speaking to head office about it. Vile!

I don't think it's resolved in any meaningful way if it happened after a reasonable 'bedtime', and involved the upheaval of changing rooms/lugging stuff to a new one, plus the sheer grossness of knowing you'd lain down in someone else's piss.
Surely they also know that people will just go online and tell the world what happened, and a refund for one night would be much less costly than that sort of bad publicity?!

Oh premier inn won’t be quaking in its boots! 😆

Mincepiesnow · 22/09/2026 15:41

Ugghhh this is gross. Yes absolutely need to demand a refund!

GoodGirlFaith · 22/09/2026 15:39

Urgh, Premier Inn. I hate them. And I write that as someone who spend 40 years working in hospitality.

They refused to help my teenage daughter alone and out in the middle of the night is all I will write about it. And no, no other context needed. She was alone, desperate and polite. But they would not help her by making 1 phone call.

Matlocking · 22/09/2026 14:46

The good night guarantee is if the guest’s issue couldn’t be resolved during the stay

read the t&cs

It is pretty clear!

Whoops, wrong thread

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 22/09/2026 15:37

Email the higher ups, say you’re going to write a factual review to warn other guest and explain in it they failed to uphold the “good night sleep guarantee”. Most places will refund you if you do this, I say this as someone who’s had to deal with it in my previous job. Keep it brief, keep it polite.

I think they should refund you tbh it’s fucking mining.

ScholesPanda · 22/09/2026 15:36

Given their guarantee, I think it's very disappointing and they should refund you. YANBU.

Terfarina · 22/09/2026 15:35

at first I thought YABU - you got moved from a smelly room to a non smelly one - but yeah - contaminated PJs and the hassle of having to move room, then feeling icky - they should've refunded you to avoid this bad PR

Matlocking · 22/09/2026 15:35

You really didn’t enjoy your stay @SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter did you?!!

So you had to get out of your bed once you were in it, go to reception, explain the issue, move all your belongings to another room, shower to remove the smell of someone else’s urine🤢….until you could finally get your night’s sleep.

I guess it depends on the T&Cs but in what world can they realistically argue that that constitutes a good night’s sleep?

And your pjs would still Be smelly. So now you’re sleeping in pee touched pjs, naked or your day time clothes.

Matlocking · 22/09/2026 15:34

I love the fact that the Op started another thread entitled “Premier Inn breakfasts BEWARE” last week!!

MsGreying · 22/09/2026 15:26

I don't think you resolve the trauma of realising you've been lay in someone else's pee by moving to another room.
The whole packing and moving room is not what humans need at bedtime.

BeurialJimberley · 22/09/2026 15:26

Her pj’s were not ‘piss stained’, op has said there was no dampness at all. It can’t have been that bad if you’d been bloody laying on it a good while. You’re just angling for a free night. Couldn’t sleep because you felt icky, my arse.

TheFishFish · 22/09/2026 15:23

I wouldn't expect a refund. You raised the issue; they moved you to another room. What more could they have done? Asking for a refund is pretty cheeky as they provided the service you had paid for, after all.

You feeling "icky" after that is hardly within their control.
